A detailed look at Adam Aron's extortion and blackmail case

On Thursday, Adam Aron, a businessman from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, admitted to messaging Sakoya Blackwood in a lengthy post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), after a media outlet Semafor posted about the incident.

Semafor reported that as per the sealed federal indictment filed in the Southern District of New York, "Victim 1,” who was Adam, was described as a “public-company CEO” who sent Blackwood, posing as “Mia,” explicit photos that included him and another woman.

According to the New York Post, in 2022, Sakoya Blackwood messaged Adam Aron in March, claiming to be a 17-year-old Russian model. Throughout the conversation, the AMC CEO, who was married to Abbe Kahn at the time, allegedly sent Blackwood explicit photos and videos of himself, mistaking her for a ballerina who had done “unmentionable things” to him in a previous relationship.

In order to extort Adam, Sakoya made up different characters, including a fake ex-boyfriend and a made-up Vanity Fair reporter, who claimed to have seen the messages and was offering money to her for an exposé.

Pretending to be the ex-boyfriend, Blackwood texted Adam Aron, saying:

"Offers are coming in like crazy ppl love a scandal."

The alleged perpetrator also admitted to having the unlisted cell phone numbers of six AMC board directors whom she could contact and have Aron fired. She also threatened Adam Aron while posing as the ex-boyfriend, saying she would publicly release the explicit photos unless she received $300,000, as per CBS.

Adam gave a statement on Twitter on Thursday, detailing the incident. He began by saying:

"Rather than give in to blackmail, I personally engaged counsel and other professional advisors and reported the matter to law enforcement. I did so knowing I risked personal embarrassment. With my access to resources, if I did not stand up against blackmail, who could?”

He then explained that a vigorous federal criminal investigation ensued and Sakoya Blackwood was arrested and convicted of a felony. She was sentenced to “nearly a year in jail” in July on counts of extortion and cyberstalking, as per The New York Post.
