California-born model Alex Consani made history as the first trans woman to be bestowed with the Model of the Year honor at the 2024 British Fashion Awards. After receiving the award at London’s Royal Albert Hall on December 2, Consani gave a special nod to the trans women who paved the way for other trans models to walk the runway:
"I'm the first trans woman to win this award. But I can't accept this award without thanking those who came before me, specifically the Black trans women who really fought for the space I'm in today – Dominique Jackson, Connie Fleming, Aaron Rose Phillips, and countless more who fought for the space that allowed me to flourish today."
Consani extended her support to the other nominees for the award:
"You all deserve this. We all fought tirelessly to be in this room tonight. It is something we should all be celebrating."
The young model further thanked her parents and family for supporting her and encouraged parents of trans children to do the same. She concluded her speech with words of motivation:
"Change is more than possible — it’s needed."
The official website for the Fashion Awards describes the Model of the Year honor:
"Recognises the global impact of a model who over the last 12 months has dominated the industry. With an influence that transcends the catwalk, the Model of The Year has made an outstanding contribution to the industry, garnering numerous editorial and advertising campaigns throughout the year."

The 2024 Model of the Year Alex Consani stepped into the modeling world at only 12, when she signed with a Los Angeles-based agency.
In 2019, Alex Consani moved to New York City and signed with IMG Models — a leading agency in the modeling world. The deal made way for her to work with major brands on the runway, including Coperni, Burberry, BOSS, and Chloe.
Consani had her first fashion week runway debut in 2021 as she walked donning Tom Ford’s Spring/Summer collection. She was dressed in an all-black ensemble with golden accessories.

Her Burberry debut was in September 2022, followed by campaigns with other brands like Roberto Cavalli, Dion Lee, and Peter Do. In October she worked with two major brands — Givenchy and Coperni in Paris.

Consani further walked the runway donning Balenciaga’s Fall 2024 collection in Los Angeles in December 2023.
The young model got her first couture gig in January 2024 as she walked for Jean Paul Gaultier, where Simone Rocha was a guest designer. Consani called the opportunity a "full circle moment" in her January 27 Instagram post.
She reminisced about visiting the museum with her grandmother for a Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit, adding it was the only designer the elder cared for at the time. She wrote:
"Because he evoked such amazing emotions with his clothing. Being able to be apart of that magic for this show was so special."
Alongside her runway gigs, Consani is quite popular on TikTok for her monologues. She was also featured in Charli XCX’s music video for 360 from her 2024 album BRAT.
