Instagram influencer Eva Lopez has sued the New York Police Department for putting her picture on a wanted poster. The poster with Lopez's image claimed her to be an s*x worker accused of "grand larceny" for, allegedly, stealing a $13,000 Rolex and a Chase credit card from her client's roommate.

The 31-year-old Instagrammer found out about the incident from a friend while returning from a trip to Florida on August 16. She retaliated against the false claims by filing a $30 million lawsuit. The case was filed based on negligence and other terms like "defamation per se, libel, slander, intentional infliction of emotional distress."

Eva Lopez has over 860k Instagram followers

Eva Donna Forte, aka Eva Lopez, is a fashion influencer and social media personality from Queens. Her Instagram account, which she turned private after the incident, @eva_lo_dimelo has over 860k followers. She also works as a bartender at a popular club in the city. Her speculated net worth is between $200K and $400K.

The influencer is currently dating someone, and her boyfriend is the one who informed Lopez about the wanted poster. She initially thought the poster to be fake, but was pushed by him and her boss to find out the truth behind it. She decided to call Detective Kevin Dwyer, the officer listed on the poster. Upon calling, she was shocked to find out that the officer was already aware of the issue, and informed that it had been removed from all of the online platforms.

However, according to her lawyer, Mark Shirian, the damage was already done by then. He explained that the poster had caused harm to the influencer's reputation and employment, he stated:

"Ms. Lopez was extremely upset and continues to be upset by the presence of her picture on the Wanted Sign, this incident has damaged Ms. Lopez's personal reputation in her neighborhood and has damaged her professional reputation in her employment."

The influencer, too, said in an interview:

“It was already spread around on social media. … It was still being passed around, still being talked about, still making me look like a thief and a pr*st***te.”

She also explained that she didn't know the accused woman and had never worked in the s*x industry, and that the incident has caused embarrassment to her and her family. She further shared:

"People didn’t think I was being honest. It was just really, really embarrassing, not only for me but for my family as well. I just really want people to know that’s not me, in any way, shape or form. The girl has nothing to do with me."

While her lawyer speculated that the accused woman might have used Eva Lopez's picture for display but had a tattoo sleeve, he also criticized the police for the confusion. He commented:

“The NYPD should commit to more thorough investigations before haphazardly accusing and identifying innocent people of fantastic lies and brazen crimes.”

The NYPD has not yet made any comment on the lawsuit yet.
