Rapper Lola Chanterelle Mitchell, better known by her stage name Gangsta Boo, was an American rapper.

She passed away on January 1, 2023 at the age of 43. She became well-known as a member of the Three 6 Mafia, which she joined at the age of 16, and was a pioneer for women in the Southern hip-hop scene.

She left the band and its record label after the release of her second solo album, Both Worlds *69 (2001), due to financial disagreements and problems with the album's promotion. The group had released six albums by that point. Later, she released a number of solo albums and gained recognition for her work with musicians like Eminem, Run the Jewels, La Chat, Latto, GloRilla, and Yelawolf.

Mitchell was born in The Whitehaven neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee and she claimed to come from a middle-class family. However, after her parents got divorced, they later "moved to the hood." She began rapping when she was about 14 years old.

Although Gangsta Boo was a well-known figure, she led a private life away from the media. Therefore, we are unable to find more information about her. Gangsta Boo and her longtime boyfriend both attended the March 2022 reality show Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition. That public appearance was the only time she made a public appearance with her boyfriend, Emmet Flores; otherwise, the public would not know they were dating.

Where did Gangsta Boo come from?

Lola Chanterelle Mitchell was born in Memphis. Her mother, Veronica (Lee) Mitchell, was a stay-at-home mom, and her father, Cedric, worked for the postal service. She once referred to her childhood world as "rough."

In a June 2022 interview with All Urban Central, she claimed, "I got a hood in me because I had a lot of hood friends.” Whitehaven was the name of her neighborhood in Memphis, but she and her friends called it Blackhaven because the majority of the locals were black.

In the 1990s, Gangsta Boo quickly made a name for herself as a rising rap star who was from the South and thrived there. She joined the underground rap crew Three 6 Mafia when she was a teenager, and the group would go on to become one of the most significant of its time.

Gangsta Boo, Juicy J, and DJ Paul's 1995 debut album, "Mystic Stylez," was a terrifying addition to the burgeoning rap scene of the time. The album, which is a part of the rap subgenre known as "horrorcore," captivated listeners with its ominous vocals, dark allusions to murder and death, and eerie beats. On the album, Gangsta Boo referred to herself as "the devil's daughter."

"Enquiring Minds," Gangsta Boo's debut solo album, was released three years later. It included one of her most well-known songs, "Where Dem Dollas At!," which served as both the song's title and a catchy and enduring hook.

While the song alluded to a merely surface-level sentiment, Gangsta Boo claimed in an interview with the website HipHopDX in 2014 that it also alluded to the strains of motherhood and childcare. "How can you have a baby by a dude that has nothing? I feel the same," she said. "I feel like that even more now. That’s why I don’t have kids. It’s got to be the right one and the right moment."

Why did Gangsta Boo leave the Three 6 Mafia?

She received her diploma from Memphis' Hillcrest High School and at the same time Mitchell had a youthful encounter with DJ Paul, also known as Paul Duane Beauregard. They grew close over their shared love of music and she was asked to join DJ Paul's crew, Three 6 Mafia, after he was impressed by her lyricism.

Gangsta Boo made her first significant move in the music business at the age of 16. "It just happened like that overnight," she stated to All Urban Central, adding, "We took off kind of fast." Gangsta Boo worked on several albums with Three 6 Mafia before leaving the group in the early 2000s to pursue a solo career.

When asked why she left, she stated in an MTV interview in 2001: "There’s no problem. Sometimes people grow apart, and basically, that’s what it is. There’s no drama, no beef. It’s still the same. I just kind of grew apart, and I’m not doing things that they’re doing. I’m not cursing in my music no more. We just grew apart like a marriage."
