The ugly-looking monster who was the reason for the murders of many people in town, Jericho, and was behind Wednesday was revealed to be the hyde. The hyde was first introduced in episode one of Wednesday when Wednesday Addams was almost killed by her fellow telekinetic classmate Rowan Laslow. However, before Rowan could hurt Wednesday, Hyde shows up and kills Rowan.

Wednesday was left completely perplexed by the monster and began digging into it. In one of the further episodes, Wednesday gets a surprise visit from her Uncle Fester who explains to her that the monster she is dealing with is called a hyde. Wednesday then sneaks into the Nevermore's library and reads in a book of outcast communities by Nevermore's founder Nathaniel Faulkner that hydes are “artists by nature, but equally vindictive in temperament.”

As she reads through the book, Wednesday also learns that hydes have a master. Nathaniel further wrote in the book, “Born of mutation, the Hyde lays dormant until unleashed by a traumatic event or unlocked through chemical inducement or hypnosis,” he also mentioned, “This causes the Hyde to develop an immediate bond with its liberator, who the creature now sees as its master. It becomes the willing instrument of whatever nefarious agenda this new master might propose.”
