The identity of the masked torchbearer at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony has got people perplexed. The masked torchbearer sported an Assassin's Creed-like outfit for Friday's ceremony as they dashed through the streets of Paris and jumped across buildings before handing the Olympic torch to French football legend Zinedine Zidane.

The identity of the torch bearer was never revealed, making people speculate the person's identity, which ranged from footballer Kylian Mbappe to singer Celine Dion.

However, according to Metro UK, French free-running champion Simon Nogueira revealed in a series of since-deleted Instagram posts on Saturday, July 27 that he was one of the people who wore the outfit.

Moreover, 2019 Chase Tag World Champion, Clement Dumais also supported Nogueira's statement and further claimed that there were 12 people in total, who donned the torchbearer's outfit at the Olympics opening ceremony.

From Kylian Mbappe to Simon Nogueira: The mystery surrounding masked torchbearer at the Olympics

The 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony offered a plethora of dazzling highlights for viewers around the world. However, one moment in particular that stood out in the crowd was the antics of the mysterious masked torchbearer. The enigmatic torchbearer donned an outfit similar to the protagonist of Assasin's Creed: Unity, Arno Dorian.

Moreover, Assasin's Creed: Unity is set in revolution-era France. The official X (formerly Twitter) account for the game seemed to be playing along with the mystery when they took to the platform on Friday, July 26 to post:

"Keep an eye on Paris' rooftops—Arno might just be watching from above. 👀🦅"

After grabbing the torch from a group of children in the river Seine, the ceremony intermittently showcased scenes of the torchbearer with a black cloak, white hood, and fencing mask, parkouring across the French capital's skyline and running through the Parisian streets.

Finally, the torchbearer emerged at the Trocadero courtesy of a trapdoor and handed over the Olympic flame to French football legend Zinedine Zidane before simply going off the stage. Louis Vitton even acknowledged the torchbearer via a tweet on the day of the opening ceremony. The X post read:

"A masked torchbearer crosses the roofs and ateliers of the Maison at Pont Neuf, revealing the savoir-faire of the craftsmen of the #LouisVuitton Medals Trunks for the Olympic Games Paris 2024."

However, the identity of the torchbearer was kept a secret from the public leading many to speculate about who was behind the mask. According to a July 26 report from The Mirror, some people even bizarrely speculated that the person behind the mask was either Leonardo DiCaprio or Celine Dion.

Snoop Dogg, who was all around the opening ceremony was also speculated. However, the dazzling display of parkour suggested that the person was a trained athlete.

As per the mirror, many had their eyes on French football sensation Kylian Mbappe, who was not taking part in the Olympics due to performing at the Euros, which just concluded earlier this month.

Some of the questions surrounding the torchbearer were seemingly answered when French free-running champion Simon Nogueira took to Instagram after the ceremony, to share a post revealing that he was one of the people in the costume.

He also shared a few pictures of himself in the torchbearer's costume while on Parisian rooftops. As per Metro UK, Nogueira captioned his post:

"I obviously wasn’t everywhere. Other incredible artists also hid on this character."

However, Simon Nogueira has since deleted the aforementioned Instagram post and stories. Seven-time Ninja Warrior finalist and 2019 Chase Tag World Champion Clement Dumais also took to X to further corroborate that the torchbearer on the roofs was indeed "the goat Simon Nogueira". He further wrote:

"In total there were 12 to play the character!"

Dumais had earlier posted a picture of the masked torchbearer on X and hoped that people enjoyed the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. When many speculated that the torchbearer was Dumais himself, he posted:

"Relax I didn't say it was me ahaha I will do a live in 1 year to tell you the truth,"

As mentioned earlier, at the end of the torchbearer's run, the torch was passed on to Zinedine Zidane, who then handed it over to Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal as the Paris Olympics opening ceremony continued.
