Rudolph Isley, a founding member of The Isley Brothers, recently died on October 11 at the age of 84. The group gained recognition for their debut album, Shout, and continued to release several more until 2022.
His daughter reportedly told People magazine that Elaine Jasper Isley, Rudolph Isley's wife, was with him when he passed away. She added that he was at his Illinois-based residence at the time of his death. The official Facebook page of The Isley Brothers also paid tribute to Rudolph by posting a picture.
"As we navigate through this deep sorrow, we kindly ask for understanding and respect for our family's privacy during this challenging time. Remember to hold your loved ones close. We will miss our brother but we know he's in a better place. Forever in our hearts," they wrote.
In another interview with People, his brother Ronald said that he cannot express his feelings.
"Our family will miss him. But I know he's in a better place," he continued.
Rudolph Isley's cause of death is yet to be revealed officially.
Rudolph Isley was married to Elaine Jasper Isley since 1958
Rudolph Isley never revealed a lot of things about his personal life. The New York Times stated that he tied the knot with Elaine Jasper in 1958. The duo later became the parents of four children: Rudy Jr., Elizabeth, Valerie, and Elaine.
Rudolph Isley grew up in Cincinnati and developed an interest in singing when he was a child. He later formed The Isley Brothers, and they released a lineup of successful musical projects over the years. The band consisted of Rudolph’s other two brothers, O’Kelly Isley Jr. and Ronald Isley.
Rudolph and his brother Ronald contributed a lot to the popularity of The Isley Brothers. Their younger brothers Marvin, Ernie, and Chris started living with them after the success of their first single, Shout, as per The New York Times. The younger brothers pursued their education at Englewood Junior High and Dwight Morrow High School.
According to The New York Times, Ernie recalled the success of his brothers and said:
“My brothers came to New York in 1957, and did about two years’ worth of paying dues. Then they came up with the idea of ‘Shout.’”
Vernon Isley was also one of the members of The Isley Brothers, but he died following an accident in 1955. Vernon was only 13 years old at the time.
The Isley Brothers released several albums and singles over the years
The Isley Brothers’ first single, Shout, managed to reach the top of the Billboard charts. They released their first album of the same name in 1959. They continued to release more albums during the 1970s until their 11th album, 3 + 3, reached the top positions on the US Billboard Black Albums and US Billboard Pop Albums.
Starting in 2006, the group went on a temporary break due to Ronald’s legal issues. They released an album before going on break, titled Baby Makin’ Music. The album reached the 5th spot on the US Billboard 200.
Their last album, titled Make Me Say It Again, Girl, was released in 2022. The group was a recipient of two Grammy Awards in 1970 and 2014.
