Thomas Dickey will represent Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old suspect in the December 4 fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Luigi Mangione was arrested at a McDonald’s outlet in Altoona, Pennsylvania on December 9 after a restaurant employee called 911 reporting a man who looked like the suspect.
Mangione faces five criminal charges in Pennsylvania and has pleaded not guilty. Additionally, he has been charged with second-degree murder, three counts of weapons possession, and one count of forgery in New York. He is being held at the Huntingdon State Correctional Institution in Pennsylvania after being denied bail twice. Luigi is also fighting extradition to New York.
On Tuesday, his lead attorney Thomas Dickey who is a defense lawyer from Pennsylvania told reporters that he expects his client to continue pleading not guilty to all the charges in both states. He also claimed not having seen any “evidence” to support that Luigi Mangione was the “right guy” in relation to Brian Thompson’s murder, adding, the New York authorities will “need to convince me.”

So far, Tom Dickey is representing Luigi Mangione as his lead defense attorney in Pennsylvania. However, he told CNN on Tuesday that there’s a “possibility” that he would represent his client in New York as well.
It remains undisclosed who hired Tom Dickey as Mangione’s lawyer. Meanwhile, the former told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Tuesday night, December 10, that his office received multiple emails from people offering to help pay for Luigi’s legal fees.
Dickey mentioned that while he hadn’t seen the emails “personally,” his staff was on the job. He added that he “probably wouldn’t” accept the offers, as it didn’t “sit right” with him, while also sharing how his client “appreciates the support.”
Outside of the Blair County Courthouse where he and his client were present on Tuesday for an extradition hearing, Thomas Dickey revealed how he planned to file a writ of habeas corpus to challenge his client’s bail refusal and detention.
In the same conversation, the defense lawyer also mentioned being “glad” for the “outpouring of support” for Luigi Mangione, who he claimed was “innocent” as per the American criminal justice system.
