American singer Noah Thompson took home the title of American Idol's season 20 winner in 2022.

On May 22, 2022, Noah Thompson of Louisa, Kentucky, took first place; HunterGirl came in second; and Leah Marlene came in third. Along with winning, Thompson became the second male country artist in a row after Chayce Beckham the season before. Additionally, it was the first time in the ABC era that a female contestant finished second.

The 20-year-old Noah Thompson, who has no formal musical training and no specific plans to pursue music as a career, was entered into the competition by his coworker and friend, Arthur. It has been a long journey for Thompson. During the Top 5 live show, he was also diagnosed with COVID, so he had to perform live from his hotel room while he was isolating.

The show was given a twentieth season on May 13, 2021, by ABC. Bryan, Perry, and Richie were back as judges, and Seacrest served as the host once more. They announced the season's debut date of February 27, 2022, on December 2. Noah Thompson's debut song, "One Day Tonight," which he performed for the show's finale, was made public, after he won.

Who is Noah Thompson?

Noah Thompson was born in Huntington, West Virginia, on April 18, 2002. He went to Louisa, Kentucky's Lawrence County High School. He was a construction worker before he entered the American Idol competition. He has performed his original songs like "Not a Phase," "Pedestal," and "Heart Painted Black" in addition to song covers on his YouTube channel.

On social media, Noah Thompson keeps his personal life private, but he revealed to the judges during the competition that he recently became a father. Since the beginning of 2018, he has been dating Angel Dixon. They became parents for the first time a little more than a year ago when they welcomed a child into the world. Noah has been inspired to succeed in the competition by his son, Walker.

Over the course of the months-long competition, contestants forge friendships and bonds that continue long after the show has ended. One of these connections for Noah Thompson was with fellow finalist Leah Marlene.

Before he was named the winner, Leah and Noah both made it to the final three, and Leah expressed nothing but pride and happiness for her friend when it was announced. They frequently express their love on each other's social media accounts.

The full-length album "No Road I Can Follow," which Thompson released in 2018, has thirteen songs. Since then, in 2018 and 2019, he has also released two singles, “You're Still Mine” and “Different.” In 2022, he most recently released three original songs that are now available for listening: "One Day Tonight," "Stay," and "Make You Rich."

What is American Idol?

American Idol is a singing competition television show that was developed by Simon Fuller, produced by Fremantle North America and 19 Entertainment, and distributed by Fremantle North America. It had 15 seasons and aired on Fox from June 11, 2002, to April 7, 2016.

It began as an addition to the Idols format based on “Pop Idol” from British television and went on to become one of the most popular shows in American television history. The idea behind the show is to find recording stars among undiscovered singing talent, with American viewers choosing the winner via phone, internet, and SMS text voting.

The winners of the first 20 seasons, as chosen by viewers, are Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, Scotty McCreery, Phillip Phillips, Candice Glover, Caleb Johnson, Nick Fradiani, Trent Harmon, Maddie Poppe, Laine Hardy, Just Sam, Chayce Beckham, and Noah Thompson.

What is the eligibility for American Idol contestants?

Contestants must be between the ages of fifteen and twenty-eight to be eligible. In the first three seasons, the age range was initially set at sixteen to twenty-four, but in the fourth season, the upper limit was increased to twenty-eight and the lower limit was lowered to fifteen. The contestants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents. They also cannot have advanced to a particular competition round in a previous season, nor may they have been covered by a recording or talent representation contract as of the semifinal round in a prior season.

Participants underwent at least three rounds of cuts for the first 18 seasons. The first was a quick audition in front of selectors, which may have included one of the show's producers with a small group of other competitors. Only a small number of these made it past the initial round of auditions, despite the fact that there can be over 10,000 auditions in each city. The winners then perform in front of the producers, where more contestants may be eliminated. The only stage of the audition process that is shown on television is the one where they go in front of the judges. Hollywood receives the contestants chosen by the judges. Each city may see between 10 and 60 individuals make it to Hollywood.

Contestants can request a Zoom interview and perform an online audition for the show's producers starting with the nineteenth season. The contestants will then be invited to audition in front of the judges in one of the audition cities if the audition goes well.
