The only thing standing in the way of Charlie reaching that goal earlier is another desire to get back together with his teenage daughter Ellie, played by Sadie Sink.
Charlie seems to have reconciled himself to the fact that he has very little time left on this Earth, despite trying to speed up the process by eating too much. However, with help from Ellie, Charlie's nurse and closest friend, Liz, performed by Hong Chau and a Mormon missionary called Thomas, maybe Charlie will have an opportunity to find a source of meaning and happiness he hasn't had in all these years.
