Matt Groening, the maker of The Simpsons wanted to make the animation look “eye-catchy,” thus they choose Yellow to do so.

The famous American sitcom The Simpsons has been entertaining audiences worldwide for quite a long now. The show was created by Matt Groening for Fox Broadcasting Company and first aired on December 17, 1989. Matt Groening, who is the creator of the sitcom, wished to make the characters more attractive. Hence he used the color yellow to do so. During an interview in 2007, Groening opened up on why most of the characters in the show are yellow. He revealed that an animator had suggested doing so in order to make the characters more “eye catchy”.

During his interview with CBS, Matt Groening said, "An animator came up with the Simpsons’ yellow, and as soon as she showed it to me I said, 'This is the answer!' When you’re flicking through channels with your remote control, and a flash of yellow goes by, you’ll know you’re watching The Simpsons.”

The Simpsons’ writer, Mike Reiss also shared his thoughts on the same topic in his book. As per him, the makers of the show chose the color yellow for the characters due to their hairlines.

Reiss said Bart, Lisa, and Maggie have no hairlines — there’s no line that separates their skin from their hair points. So the animators chose yellow — it’s kinda skin, kinda hair.”
