The latter is alleged to be behind the death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was fatally shot in New York City. In the wake of these events, netizens have begun disseminating misinformation about Mangione and his personal interests.
26-year-old Luigi Mangione has been arrested on the following charges: second-degree murder, possession of a forged document, criminal possession of a weapon, and two counts of possession of a firearm. The Maryland native was caught in an Altoona, Pennsylvania McDonald's branch.
Many have since taken to social media to discuss Luigi Mangione, including his social media accounts and interests. Meanwhile, X user @pcxd13 took to the social networking site to claim that they knew the suspect personally. They said on December 10:
“waittttt i met Luigi Mangione at a party a few years ago and we traded numbers and would text from time to time about Pokemon roms and Carly Rae Jepsen songs… this is crazy”
The tweet quickly went viral and amassed over two million views. Many have since flooded X with claims of Mangione listening to Carly Rae Jepsen’s songs. Some tweets read:

According to The Post's December 9 report, Luigi Mangione belongs to a reputed Maryland family, including a cousin who works in the state legislature. He was born and raised in Maryland, however, he has ties to San Francisco, and his last known address was in Honolulu.
He was a valedictorian in his Maryland prep school before earning his undergraduate and graduate degrees in computer science in 2020 from the University of Pennsylvania. The Post also reported that he belonged to the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

He interned at Maryland-based video game studio Firaxis and also at the car-buying website TrueCar. As per The Post, he also once worked in an assisted-living facility for the elderly in 2014.
