Big Brother is a Dutch reality competition television franchise created by John de Mol Jr. The whole idea of this reality show is that the selected "housemates'' (contestants) for the show will have to live together in a specially constructed house that is isolated from the outside world. Each of these contestants will be monitored by live television cameras and will be given personal audio microphones. As the competition continues, the contestant has to play headstrong and win the hearts of the audience.

The ones who failed to do so will be voted out. Such eviction (weekly basis) will keep on taking place until only one remains and wins the cash prize. The show was first broadcast in the Netherlands in 1999. The show then went on to be a hit and subsequently it was syndicated in different countries and regions. As of 2021, there are over 62 franchises of Big Brother in different countries and Big Brother USA is one of them.

Just like the original reality show, the Big Brother (American) version is also typically the same including all the rules and regulations. There are 24 seasons of Big Brother (US) and a total of 855 episodes. The show is hosted by Julie Chen Moonves and has been pretty hit throughout each of its seasons. Fans of the show are well aware that in order to survive in the house, the housemates will have to go through physical, mental, and emotional challenges just to reach the end game and win the huge cash prize. Housemates can anytime wish to quit the show or could also be forcibly evicted from the show if they break any rules.

The first season of the show first aired on July 5, 2000, and had a viewership of 9.01. After receiving some criticism, the show was then revamped for season 2 and was made to focus on competition and gameplay and since then it became a huge hit.
