Kanye West (now known as "Ye") was prohibited from performing at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards earlier this month. The Recording Academy, together with executives from CBS, informed Variety that they reached the decision as a result of the artist's "concerning online activity."

In addition to being nominated for album of the year for Donda, West, a 22-time Grammy winner, received five other nominations this year.

West was apparently dropped from a subsequent lineup even though he wasn't formally named as a Grammy performer. According to the story initially published by the Blast (and then verified by one of West's representatives with Variety), the crew was informed of the decision via phone; they were apparently not shocked.

The phrase "concerning online conduct" appears to allude to remarks made by West on social media in recent months. West has shared pictures of Kim Kardashian's lover, Pete Davidson, being abducted and killed.

What happened between Kanye and Trevor Noah?

In addition to being temporarily banned from Instagram, West was also punished for breaking the site's rules against harassment, bullying, and hate speech. Trevor Noah had criticized West for allegedly harassing Kim Kardashian after their divorce in a segment, to which West had responded. West called Noah a racial epithet in an Instagram post that has since been deleted.

The fact that Noah will be hosting the Grammys is another reason why the Recording Academy reportedly forbade West from performing; it would appear that they didn't want the two performing together.

After the decision, however, Noah tweeted angrily, "I said counsel Kanye not cancel Kanye," alluding to a previous comment West had made on an Instagram post that has since been deleted, in which Noah had stated, "it breaks my heart to see you like this."

Noah participated in the 2008 season of the reality dance competition program Strictly Come Dancing. In 2009, Noah performed in The Daywalker, his first solo comedy show. The sold-out performance took place in a 1,100-seat theater in Johannesburg, and the DVD of the performance quickly rose to the top of the charts.

What does the phrase “concerning online behavior” mean?

These actions included posting on his public Instagram private text messages between him and Kardashian, releasing a claymation music video in which a man who looked like Davidson was buried alive, pleading with his fans not to hurt "Skete," and stating that he would "handle the situation myself." The posts have since been deleted.

According to Page Six's report on Friday, West assured Kardashian that he would stop bothering her and Davidson and instead go seek assistance.

According to a source close to the Kardashians, Kanye has told Kim that he will refrain from making any provocative public statements or appearances and will instead travel somewhere to heal for the benefit of the children. The source clarified that West was in Los Angeles to be with his four children with Kardashian and that it was unclear whether he would check himself into a rehab center. According to a representative for West, Ye is currently committed to a positive co-parenting arrangement with Kim and is concentrating on raising their children.
