An X user Poppy, who goes by the username @imnotpopbase, has been bombarded with Community Notes after she left a comment under PopBase's post about rapper Bad Bunny's Puerto Rican ethnicity. The PopBase post stated that the rapper endorsed Kamala Harris. While multiple internet users commented on the post on October 28, 2024, Poppy's comment read:

"he's not even american"

Shortly after she replied to the tweet, a Community Note was attached to her response stating that "Puerto Ricans are American citizens," given that Bad Bunny is Puerto Rican. The Community Notes feature allows users to add corrective content to images or tweets that might be misleading.

Poppy replied to the Community Notes stating:

"community noting a comment is so f*kin weird omg ya'll are so obsessed with me"

Her response was countered with another Community Note mentioning people weren't obsessed with her and were just trying to prevent the spread of misinformation.

"my original comment is correct": X user Poppy maintains her stance on Bad Bunny's ethnicity

A popular X account called "Community Notes Violations" posted a thread of Poppy's tweets with Community Notes attached to the same. In one of her tweets, the X user stated:

"my original comment is correct. he is not american he is PEURTO RICAN????"

Despite people correcting her via Community Notes, the X user kept repeating her statement, and in one of the tweets she said that people cannot gaslight her. She also questioned if one walks up to someone in Puerto Rico what would they say their nationality was, American or Puerto Rican?

Additionally, Poppy also targetted Puerto Ricans and tweeted:

"ya'll just wanna leech off america because we are the better country. YOU WILL NEVER BE AMERICAN"

The X user's back and forth with Community Notes led to TikTok users making a video on the same. On October 29, 2024, Poppy took to X attaching a TikTok video stating there's a viral TikTok with nearly 100k likes bashing her online. She said:

"this is NOT OKAY. i am receiving hundreds of DEATH THREATS. everyone needs to go unlike that video. this is NOT okay."

In the video, TikTok user @_isabelle_333_ is laughing at screenshots of the X user's tweet attached with Community Notes. Poppy then followed up her tweet with another one tagging @CommunityNotes and @Support. The X user stated that people on the app have been cyberbullying and censoring her by putting Community Notes on her posts regarding Puerto Rico. The X user also said that it wasn't okay and that she felt "targeted and harassed" and asked the app to fix the issue immediately.

Netizens attached another Community Note to the X user's request by mentioning that the Community Notes are there because she has been incorrect and needs fact-checking. The Community Note also comprised links to articles about Puerto Rico being a commonwealth and insular area of the US and not an independent country, along with links to articles about the American citizenship of Puerto Ricans.

One of the possible reasons that the X user's comments on Puerto Ricans blew up and resulted in people bombarding her with Community Notes is comedian Tony Hinchcliffe's comment on Puerto Ricans. The comedian called Puerto Rico "a floating island of garbage" during Donald Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden on October 27, 2024.

Hinchcliffe's comment led to a lot of backlash against him and resulted in Trump's campaign distancing itself from the comedian.
