2024 Presidential election nominee Donald Trump recently visited the Sprankle's Neighborhood Market in Kittanning, Pennsylvania on September 23, 2024, to campaign for the upcoming elections. During his interaction with customers at the market, the former president promised that he would lower grocery prices if he won the election.
Apart from his promises to the public, a video of Trump walking into the grocery store and picking up a large bag of popcorn has gone viral on social media. Internet users took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their views on the former president's viral video while taking a dig at Trump. An X user tweeted:
"You know he has no plans to pay."
"This is just purely a PR stunt, it’s obvious he has no clue what he’s doing", an X user mentioned.
"Make him go into the self checkout line. By himself!😂🔥", another X user jokingly stated.
"His co-conspirator, Walt, at the ready to carry the popcorn", an internet user referred to the former president's bodyguard Walt carrying the popcorn for him.
Moreover, internet users also took digs at the video of the former president at the grocery store:
"And immediately falls for the End Cap Scam..🤣", an X user tweeted reffering to Trump's promises toward capitalism.
"He will grab things off the shelves like a 6 year old", another X user joked.
"It's as awkward as when vance does it", an internet user mentioned, referring to JD Vance claiming egg prices had risen to $4 under Kamala Harris' policies just as he stood against eggs priced $2.99 at a supermarket.
Donald Trump creates controversy by giving mom of three $100 for groceries at Pennsylvania supermarket
Apart from a video of Trump picking a large bag of popcorn at the Sprankle's Neighborhood Market in Kittanning, his interaction with a mother of three has gone viral and garnered a lot of traction on the internet as well. The former president was seen giving $100 to a local mother of three for her groceries, assuring her that the prices of groceries would go down a little bit.
In the video, Trump is seen stating:
“Here, it’s gonna go down a little. It just went down 100 bucks. We’ll do that for you from the White House, alright?”
The former president also commented on the prices of grocery items and mentioned:
“Chicken is way up. Canned fruits are up 27%, butter is up 30%, crackers, who would think it’d be crackers? Crackers are up 40%.”
However, it was the former president's gesture of giving a mother of three $100 for her groceries that raised eyebrows. Internet users questioned if it was a form of bribe or if it was right for a presidential candidate to offer money to somebody.
This question was clarified by Michael Dimino, a visiting professor at the University of South Carolina Law School, as mentioned on QC News. Michael said that it is not illegal for Trump to give money to other people but it would be illegal if he did it in exchange for something.
Clarifying the same, the law professor stated:
“You can’t pay anybody to vote for you. You can’t pay anybody to vote against the opponent. You can’t pay anybody to vote at all. You can’t pay anybody to stay home.”
In other news, the former president has been making promises with respect to capitalism wherein he has promised to cut America's energy costs in half in the span of a year. Trump has also pledged to reduce inflation and revive mortgage rates back to record lows, as per the New York Times dated September 10, 2024.
