What’s the story?
Anthony Joshua participated in Dubai’s drive to promote fitness across the UAE.
Helping promote the social cause in Dubai, Joshua entered the iconic helipad of the Burj Al Arab showcasing his boxing skills inside a makeshift ring atop the helipad overlooking the city.
In case you didn’t know…
The Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, recently organised the launch of about 75 popup fitness centers across Dubai, providing more than 1,500 free workout classes.
In the wake of the ‘Dubai Fitness Challenge’ that was launched earlier this month, the UAE’s (United Arab Emirates) most popular city, Dubai, is ensuring that physical activity is accorded great priority in the entire country.
The heart of the matter
It’s being reported that more than 800,000 people have already signed up to 30 minutes of activity for 30 days for the Dubai Fitness Challenge.
The reigning IBF, IBO and WBA (Super) Boxing Heavyweight Champion Anthony ‘AJ’ Joshua threw his name into a rarified list which also comprises legendary sportspersons such as Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Andre Agassi—showcasing his skills atop the third tallest hotel in the world, the Burj Al Arab.
Joshua was accompanied by Sebastian Eubank, who is the son of British boxing legend Chris Eubank Sr., and also a boxing trainer based in Dubai. A makeshift boxing ring was set atop the Burj Al Arab’s helipad with Sebastian holding mitts for AJ, and the Heavyweight Champion clobbering away on them in an intense training session.
What’s next?
England’s own Anthony Joshua is just coming off a win over Carlos Takam. AJ is expected to further unify the Heavyweight Championship by facing undefeated American pugilist and current WBC Heavyweight titlist ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Deontay Wilder in a highly-anticipated clash next year.
Author’s take
Joshua is one of the most dangerous boxers in the world today.
He alongside Tyson Fury, Wilder, Luis Ortiz and Joseph Parker represent the top of the current generation of Heavyweight combat sportspersons. It’s great to see AJ promoting a good cause this side of the world, and boxing fans await the eventual unification of the Heavyweight title belts!
