The WWE is somewhat unique in its approach to wrestling contracts in that they want exclusive rights to their superstars. When you are signed with the WWE, you are not allowed to seek out employment on the side with other promotions.

However, most wrestling promotions in fact will allow their talent to wrestle for other federations, with some restrictions. For example, Ring of Honor stars were once allowed to appear on Impact/Tna until relations between those two companies soured.

All Elite Wrestling has signed the Lucha Brothers, Pentagon Jr and Fenix, but those stars will also continue to appear on Lucha Underground and Impact. Kenny Omega's deal also allows him to wrestle for other promotions--except for WWE, of course.

The Usos have spent their entire career with the WWE, and they may want to stretch their wings and try other regions in which to ply their trade. Signing with AEW will allow them to do just that.
