Could Cody Rhodes really be out of the AEW World Title picture forever? Stranger things have surely happened in pro wrestling over the years, but it would be a real shock to the young company for sure.
In what is certainly the best feud in AEW, Chris Jericho vs Cody has become very personal. So what could happen on Saturday?
While fans might have a problem believing Cody will lose and be out of the main event scene, we have many possible finishes that could occur in the AEW World Championship match. As we look forward to one of the main events of AEW Full Gear, I present my list of top five potential finishes for Chris Jericho versus Cody Rhodes.
#5 Chris Jericho wins clean
We might as well start with the most straight forward of all the possible options. It is also likely the least exciting possibility which could occur Saturday night in Baltimore.
Chris Jericho with his truly amazing promo work leading into All Elite Wrestling Full Gear has proven once again at age 49 why he was the best option to be the inaugural AEW World Champion.
It would surely be a blow to the AEW fans in Baltimore to see Jericho continue his undefeated streak in All Elite Wrestling, and also in the process prevent Cody Rhodes from ever competing for the AEW World Title again.
We should also be confident that if Jericho can beat Cody without any outside assistance from members of the Inner Circle, we will never hear the end of his constant bragging.
He likely would celebrate with some bubbly as well, in perhaps another amazing promo. After all, Jericho is the youngest AEW World Champion in history. He should celebrate if he defeats Cody.
#4 Cody Rhodes wins clean
It would be a big moment in professional wrestling for sure. Cody Rhodes has stressed how important it is for him to win the World Title of AEW, as he has spoken repeatedly about how incomplete his career would be until he wins this title.
The fact he is willing to add the stipulation of never getting a title shot again is pretty significant because that makes it seem like Cody has to win the AEW World Title on Saturday night. It would be his last shot at the title if the stipulation is to be believed.
Cody winning the AEW World Title would be a real feel-good story as he has produced some of the most emotional and best feuds in the young history of the promotion. He has also produced the very best promos in All Elite Wrestling as well.
It would be a true shame to not reward him with at least one solid AEW World Championship reign. If Cody triumphs in Baltimore on Saturday night, I am sure it would lead to a fun Being the Elite episode next week.
#3 No contest
The Inner Circle versus The Elite has lead to some fun brawls and chaotic finishes in multiple episodes of All Elite Wrestling Dynamite so far. It is now time for the leaders of these two factions to come face to face for the biggest prize in AEW.
Will they possibly end AEW Full Gear without a clear winner at the main event? It's quite possible based on recent AEW Dynamite events. It would serve a couple of purposes to have this style of finish on Saturday night.
Firstly, Chris Jericho would continue his title reign, and it would give Cody Rhodes the clear case that he didn’t lose the match and he could attempt to challenge for the World Title again.
It seems this possible finish would be unlikely because, with the ringside judges, the World Title match ending in a no contest will be difficult. But with so many non-finishes in pro wrestling recently, it wouldn't be an impossible prospect.
#2 MJF costs Cody Rhodes the match
We know this turn is coming to All Elite Wrestling soon. MJF is arguably one of the best heels in AEW and all of professional wrestling.
So why does he call Cody Rhodes the most popular face in the company and his so-called best friend? MJF brings it up all the time. The company has teased him possibly turning on Cody for months now.
He has turned down multiple chances to betray Cody so far, but that long-anticipated betrayal could finally come at AEW Full Gear during the World Title match.
What better way to have MJF earn his reputation as the big heel of All Elite Wrestling than costing Cody his only shot at the AEW Title? It would keep the title on Chris Jericho and provide some distraction for Cody in the coming months.
Just imagine the promos MJF and Cody could pull off in the coming months as they start a very personal feud. It would make for truly amazing television on AEW Dynamite.
#1 Marty Scurll costs Cody Rhodes the match
Is it finally time for a proper villain to come to All Elite Wrestling? Marty Scurll was the odd man out of the Being the Elite YouTube show as his contract with Ring of Honor didn’t expire well into 2019. It is now time for him to make a major decision on his future.
He has been quiet recently and has declared that his friends are dead. That seems like a guy who could be quite angry about all his past allies going onto the exciting world of All Elite Wrestling while he has been out of the limelight in Ring of Honor for all of 2019.
What better way to get Marty over as a major star in All Elite Wrestling then to cost his former ally his last chance at the AEW World Title. If Scurll joined the Inner Circle or formed a new Villain Enterprises in AEW, it could lead to some fun faction warfare.
Scurll’s strong promo work and unique look would be a big hit with the diehard All Elite pro wrestling fans. He should come in as a major player to any wrestling promotion, and this would be the best possible way to quickly establish him as such.
I hope we see some fingers snapped and a cross-face chicken wing on Saturday night as well. It would be the proper villain thing to do!
