What's the story?
All Elite Wrestling has been spreading like wildfire in terms of news, reactions, scepticism, optimism and hope for a new revolution for the world of professional wrestling. WWE Hall of Famer and former Color Commentator, Jerry "The King" Lawler spoke about AEW a few days ago on his podcast, along with his opinion on the use of adult-related content in today's wrestling versus the Attitude Era of the 1990's.
In case you didn't know...
All Elite Wrestling was officially announced on December 31st, 2018 during a special "Being the Elite" episode on YouTube, in addition to their first event and successor to "All In" appropriately called "Double or Nothing".
Over a week later Cody Rhodes, along with AEW CEO and President Tony Khan and members of The Elite, held a very special "Double or Nothing!" rally to announce new signings such as Chris Jericho, PAC, Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, Scorpion Sky, MJF, Penelope, Britt Baker, "Hangman" Adam Page, The Young Bucks and Billy Gunn (as their producer).
The heart of the matter
On episode 80 of "Dinner with the King", a weekly podcast hosted by Lawler alongside co-host Glenn Miller, he took the time to discuss his thoughts on AEW as well as the use of adult-oriented content in professional wrestling today.
"I hope it does well. Believe it or not, competition is the best thing for anything. The best times WWE ever had was in the Monday Night Wars. We had two separate wrestling shows on at the same time on Monday nights; two different companies. They were getting 7-8 million people watching each one of them. Now you struggle to get two to watch one of them, which is the only show in town [WWE]. I wish them luck - it'll definitely be a force to be reckoned with."
About the adult content, I agree. That's all I hear about from fans, is how they miss the Attitude Era and that sorta thing. But that doesn't fly well with advertisers - if they get on a good cable slot on TV, do they have to worry about advertisers? If they don't, they can probably go for a little more adult-oriented show."
