Moose shocked the Impact Wrestling crowd when he turned on Eddie Edwards and aligned himself with Austin Aries and Killer Kross. It was a shocking betrayal from someone who has long been considered Mr. Impact Wrestling.
After this moment, I was given the opportunity to sit down with Moose and discuss his actions and evident heel turn in an attempt to get to the bottom of his despicable actions, try to get some justification for why he betrayed his friend and force him to answer what he, along with Austin Aries and Killer Kross, had planned for Impact Wrestling.
Moose also gave me the pleasure of being my first interview with a wrestler where the wrestler remained completely in character. As you'll see this was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be as Moose's new attitude and direction made him an incredibly difficult person to interview, although it definitely made him come across as a bad dude, which I guess was the point!
Do you think that aligning with Aries and Killer Kross has allowed you to do something we've not really seen from you at Impact? Usually, you've been the popular guy, the crowd favourite. Is this a different side of you we're getting to see?
Moose: Some might say it's a different side of me, I think I'm still the same guy, I still have the same goals that I've had ever since I've been at Impact which is to be the best, but now I'm just choosing a different way to get to that goal. Being the crowd favourite hadn't gotten me anything. So let's see what this new venture does.
Is one of your goals to win the Impact World Title at some point in the future?
Moose: That's always a goal, but I feel like we have a good champion right now with Aries. I don't think that a title right now at this point in my career will do anything for me, I am a Walking Legend. I don't think that me holding the Impact World Title does anything for me right now. We have a good champion in Austin, and it's his boat. If it's ever my time to have it then I hope to do good by it but I think we have a good champion right now and that's all we need.
Legend Counter: One
Would you like to wrestle [Aries] for the title at some point in the future?
Moose: I don't know if that's needed. I don't know if you're trying to create conflict between us because that's not going to happen. We have a good champion in Austin Aries. He is the best wrestler in the world, I am the best big, big man in the world and we have the certified assassin. I mean, what trio is better than the one I've just mentioned?
I can't think of one off of the top of my head but I am looking forward to see what the three of you can do? What would you like to do at Impact as a trio? Just stay on top and kind of dominate?
Moose: That's the goal. People are saying 'why did you turn bad'? I didn't turn bad. You can't mention one bad thing I've done, you can't say that. I feel like we are three men that have he same goal and the same motivation, and I feel like us three combined are going to make Impact a better TV show and draw ratings and we're going to dominate.
Next: Moose talks about making Impact Wrestling better, his thoughts on Scarlett Bordeaux and, of course, refers to himself as a legend some more!
Moose is someone who has been with Impact Wrestling for a long time, meaning he would have seen the company beforehand and is now seeing the company as it progresses and changes.
One of the bigger changes for Impact Wrestling at the moment seems to be that it's willing to put out some of the more controversial professional wrestling content, so I asked Moose how he felt about all of that.
You mentioned making Impact a better TV show, obviously, the company is going through a change at the moment. What's it like being part of that and going with them through this process?
Moose: Like I said, what other company has a 'Walking Legend' on their roster at the moment? Does that answer your question?
Legend Counter: Two
That does answer that question. Okay, Impact is one of the more controversial promotions out there at the moment with the LAX hit and run storyline where the OGz ran over a child...
Moose: The child shouldn't have been in the street
Really? The child shouldn't have been in the street? Anyway, as well as the Barbed Wire match with oVe and LAX. No-one else is really doing matches like that on television, is that something you see Impact doing, as being that promotion.
Moose: Yeah, I mean we're going to be different. Other TV shows out there kind of give you the same product and we're trying to be different. And that's why fans are tuning in every Thursday and Friday night here in the UK to watch how different we are and I think that's only going to make wrestling better.
Next: Moose discusses Eddie Edwards, Chris Jericho and Neville potentially joining Impact Wrestling and find out if he calls himself a legend again! (Spoilers: He does)
As the interview was taking place at Wrestling MediaCon, I wanted to ask Moose about his match against his new arch-enemy Eddie Edwards, what it was like to team with Nathan Cruz and his thoughts on Impact Wrestling broadcasting in the UK.
Naturally, Moose didn't really answer these questions and referred to himself as a legend several times. Amazing.
You mentioned the UK, one of the things that Impact announced recently is a new broadcasting deal in the UK with Fight Network, how do you feel about that?
Moose: I love it, it's another place to catch us. It's always good for business.
One of the things you did here in the UK was the Impact Wrestling vs UK show where you set foot in the ring with Eddie Edwards for the first time since you betrayed him. How did you feel going into that match?
Moose: I felt great, the question was that you should have asked Eddie how he felt about stepping in the ring with a legend
Legend Counter: Three
You teamed up with Nathan Cruz who is one of the UK guys from World of Sports. Do you feel it's important to give the lesser known wrestlers like that the opportunity to share the same spotlight
Moose: The way I looked at it was that it was a win-win situation. I got to beat the hell out of Eddie Edwards, and Nathan Cruz got to tag with a walking legend, how big for his career was that!
Legend Counter: Four
As an aside, the match between Eddie Edwards and Justin Sysum Vs. Nathan Cruz and Moose from the Impact Wrestling Vs. UK show was fantastic. Moose played the perfect heel avoiding Eddie throughout most of the match, taunting and cheating throughout and there was a great moment where he told everyone in the crowd to move, feigned throwing Sysum into the crowd, and then didn't only to flip them off. Great stuff!
As an extra aside, despite all his talk and bravado in my interview, Moose actually ended up walking out of the match to avoid a beating from Eddie Edwards which ended up costing him and Nathan Cruz the match, so it wasn't exactly a win-win situation! Anyway, back to the interview!
Next: Can Moose get the legend counter even higher and how does he feel about Chris Jericho and Neville potentially joining Impact? Plus, does he have tag-team gold aspirations?
The interview finished with Moose giving his thoughts on a flurry of topics, all painstakingly in character of course! Because why stop now right.
We touch on Neville and Chris Jericho potentially joining Impact and Moose's thoughts on this, Moose addresses the controversy surrounding Scarlett Bordeaux and her character and finally Moose compares himself to Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan, obviously.
Is there anyone in Impact who has been rumoured to join the company that you'd like to see, people like Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio or even Neville?
Moose: It's funny because people have been saying stuff on social media about how Neville is coming to help Eddie Edwards and like I said on social media, I'm going to say it again, F*** Neville. If he comes to Impact, or whatever he does, I'm going to wish him the best of luck. But if Impact is the decision he makes, just don't get in my way.
Of course there's every chance that he could come to Impact and even join your group, are you guys open to new members?
Moose: If they have the same goals and motivation that we have then sure, but if he doesn't then we'll see what happens.
And Chris Jericho is another one of the people that have been rumoured, at the Re-Defined episode there were loud chants for him in the crowd. How do you feel about Chris Jericho?
Moose: Same thing I feel about Neville. If he has the same motivation and goals that we have at Impact Wrestling then welcome aboard. If he doesn't then...
Okay, another question I wanted to ask is about Scarlett Bordeaux, who has just started at Impact. A lot of people are saying she's a step backwards for women's wrestling. What would you say to them?
Moose: Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I think that Scarlett has done a great phenomenal job since she's been with Impact Wrestling and I wish her the very best and I'm sure she's going to continue doing the very best that she can and whoever thinks whatever they think about her can go screw themselves.
Is there anyone in Impact that you haven't wrestled that you'd want to wrestle, or is it more of a case of going along with Austin Aries and Killer Kross and seeing who presents themselves?
Moose: I don't do the whole dream match thing. I consider myself to be a legend. I'm sure if you asked some of the other current legends out there like Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan and asked them the same question that they're not going to sit there and pick different guys they want to wrestle, no. Those guys should be happy to wrestle me.
Legend Counter: Five or Six? It's Five..
So you are their dream match?
Moose: I am their dream match, yes
What about titles then, if you aren't after the World Title, what about going after the tag-team titles with Killer Kross?
Moose: I'm not a tag-team wrestler, I've never been. But that might be something I do just for myself, in my spare time. Just because I'm bored. But if that's the case, if we ever get that feeling that we're bored and we want to accomplish something quick then we might go for the tag-team titles, myself or Kross might go for the X-Division title but as of right now we're not tag-team wrestlers, we're three individual guys with the same mindset and the same goals.
And that wrapped up my chat with the legend Moose. Who is a walking legend, living legend and flat out legend. Honestly though, it was quite the experience to interview someone who didn't necessarily care about giving a full and complete answer to questions.
If this interview with Moose and his match at Wrestling MediaCon has taught me anything, it's that he has been a fantastic heel in hiding all this time!
