What’s the story?
Respected Pro Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer has recently reported that former Impact Wrestling World Champion Eddie Edwards will be staying with Impact Wrestling for the time being and isn’t expected to depart from the promotion in the near future.
In case you didn’t know…
Coming off a brilliant 2017, former five-time Impact Tag Team Champion Eddie Edwards started off 2018 in a very disrupting manner. Last year, Edwards became the first ever gaijin wrestler to win the GHC Heavyweight Championship after the former Wolves member defeated Katsuhiko Nakajima in August.
The former Ring of Honor World Champion also had a successful title defense against the legendary Naomichi Marufuji, however, lost his GHC World Title to Kenoh on December 22nd at Pro Wrestling NOAH: Kabuki The Final which took place at the Korakeun Hall.
The heart of the matter
According to The Observer, the current belief is that Eddie Edwards will stay with Impact Wrestling for the time being. Edwards recently suffered a devastating eye injury at the recent Impact Wrestling tapings on 13 January.
The former Impact World Champion was in action against Sami Callihan when Callihan hit a chair with a baseball bat and the bat ricocheted off the chair into Eddie Edward’s eye causing him to lose a tremendous amount of blood in the process.
Shortly after the incident, Eddie was taken to a nearby hospital as the Impact management was in fear that the baseball bat hit might have severely damaged Edwards’ eye. However, that wasn’t to be the case as it was later reported that the 34-year-old suffered several cuts, a broken nose, and a possible concussion.
What’s next?
No further update has been released yet about Eddie Edwards’ eye injury as fans are eagerly waiting to get the latest on the former tag team partner of Davey Richards. One thing is now for sure that Impact Wrestling fans might not get to see Eddie Edwards on their television screens for the next few months as he recovers from his suffered broken nose.
Author’s take
Eddie Edwards’ injury could’ve been a lot worse, but thankfully it’s not. We certainly hope that Edwards makes a speedy recovery and gets back into the squared circle as soon as possible.
