What's the story
Longtime NJPW wrestler and top star, Kota Ibushi has announced he will be remaining with NJPW for the foreseeable future. Kota made a surprise return at "The New Beginning in Sapporo" to announce his intent on staying with the organization.
In case you didn't know...
Kota Ibushi suffered what was originally believed to be a serious concussion while competing against Will Osprey at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom XIII, last month. However, the concussion was not as serious as medical personnel had thought.
The heart of the matter
As reported by WrestlingINC, Kota Ibushi made a special surprise appearance at "The New Beginning" in Osaka, Japan on February 11th. During this appearance, he announced that he signed a multi-year contract that will extend his run with NJPW through 2021.
After much speculation, many wrestling fans felt perhaps Ibushi would join Kenny Omega in AEW and reunite with his longtime friend and former tag team partner, but that will not be the case as it appears Kota will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
Later on, after learning of Kota's announcement, Kenny Omega would send a special tweet to his best friend.
(Translation: "See you again one day.". "Good luck".).
What's next
Kota Ibushi will be competing in the New Japan Cup Tournament, which will begin on March 8th. The winner will receive a special championship match as part of the G1 Supercard event on April 6th, live from Madison Square Garden in New York. Kota is definitely one of the odds on favorite to win the tournament.
