What's the story?
A fan recently asked Nick Jackson if his friend Kenny Omega would be a participant in this Sunday's Royal Rumble event.
Fightful.com carried a story about the question asked by the fan. Jackson jokingly responded by saying that Omega 'would breach his contract in order to appear'.
In case you didn't know...
The Royal Rumble is one of the most anticipated events in pro wrestling. The WWE has often made it a memorable event with surprise returns and debuts from several superstars. Wrestlers like Booker T, Kevin Nash, Rey Mysterio, Bubba Ray Dudley and others have made surprise returns for the match.
Names like AJ Styles, Adam Cole and Andrade have also made debuts in the rumble match although Cole and Andrade's debuted for one night only. The biggest thing that could happen for wrestling is having Omega somehow be able to debut at the event, but something might prevent that dream from happening.
The heart of the matter
The pot was stirred when a fan asked the question of Nick Jackson on a social media platform recently.
Not being one to leave a fan's question unanswered, Nick Jackson obliged the fan by answering his question in hilarious fashion.
"He specifically told me if you randomly messaged me I should tell you. So here it is...Yes, he will be there to breach his contract and illegally wrestle for another company."
Omega is still under contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling until February 1, so an appearance in the match would indeed be a breach of his contract unless some sort of agreement was reached beforehand.
He also hasn't appeared at any NJPW events since he lost the IWGP Heavyweight Championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13.
Omega wanted to take some time off from wrestling and since he isn't in the plans for the future, NJPW management obliged.
What's next?
Although it is highly unlikely for the Best Bout Machine to indeed appear this Sunday at the Royal Rumble, one thing could make this happen. The highly unlikely possibility is that Omega does show up because he wants to and WWE and NJPW somehow negotiate a two or three-day buy-out of the contract.
If Kenny Omega wants to sign with WWE, although very unlikely, and be in the rumble, some sort of devil's deal between the two biggest promotions in the world might be reached. The two companies likely don't want to help each other out, but if this did happen, it might signal a possible future working relationship between the two companies.
Imagine how historical for the business something like that would be. Two enemies working together albeit on a very small basis. It's just wishful thinking, but anything can happen.
