Five-time world champion and triple Olympic champion, Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia will be participating in this year’s Paris marathon scheduled to be held on the 6th of April, the organizers have announced.
Bekele, one of the all-time great long-distance runners had been struggling in the last three seasons with injuries. The Ethiopian expressed his desire to emulate legendary compatriots Abebe Bikila and Haile Gebreselassie by taking up marathon running.
Bekele, 31 has 11 world cross country titles to his name, along with world records in 5,000m and 10,000m. His achievements also include double triumphs at the 2008 Olympics and 2009 worlds.
