A team of talented Telangana sailors from Hyderabad is getting ready to represent India at the prestigious British Nationals and World Championships, slated to be held in Plymouth, UK, from July 29 to August 9.

The British Nationals and World Championships will be in the Cadet Class double-hander boats, the first time for India in this class. The Cadet Class is extremely crucial before moving into the higher International 420 and Olympic 470 Class.

It will be a momentous occasion when India returns to the Cadet World Championships after 27 years. More than 150 sailors from about 15 countries, mainly from Europe, will compete, with India being the only representative from Asia.

Leading the team for the British Nationals and World Championships would be the national champions, Deekshita and Govardhan, who have shown immense talent and promise.

The new bronze medalist, Rizwan Mohammad, will team up with the gold medalist in the 420 Nationals, Thanuja Kameshwar.

The other strong team combination of Telangana sailors comprises Govardhan Pallara and Deekshita Komaravelly, who respectively impressed in the boys' and girls' sections of the U-16 Optimist class in the just-concluded 15th Monsoon Regatta. Govardhan also won the Monsoon Regatta Trophy, the SH Babu Trophy and the boys' gold medal.

Another competent skipper-crew combination will be Ganesh Peerkatla and Vinodh Dandu. Ganesh Peerkatla and Thanuja Kameshwar have just won the 420 International Open, and Vinodh Dandu, along with Rizwan Mohammad, have finished in the top three in most of the recent regattas.

British Nationals and World Championships: Suheim Sheikh to coach, Dharani Naveti to be assistant coach of Telangana sailors

Suheim Sheikh, the president and the coach of the Yachting Club of Hyderabad, said he is looking forward to this international exposure. The Telangana sailors will put in a good show under the guidance of coach Suheim, with Dharani Naveti as the assistant coach.

Needless to say, it will throw open the talent and hard work of the Telangana sailors on the international stage, thereby gaining invaluable experience and opportunities for growth.

This will be in memory of Jay Pullur, a pioneer in Software products and an ardent patron of The YCH Foundation that started several software companies in Hyderabad and the US.
