Abhinav Bindra won his first gold at the Commonwealth Games in his 5th appearance at the games.
Bindra had won gold in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, becoming the first Indian to win an individual gold. It was a thrilling finish at the Barry Buddon Shooting range as it went right down to the last shot.
Bangladesh's Abdullah Baki showed tremendous resolve as he jumped up the table from 7th place after 10 rounds. Ravi Kumar led the table and looked poised to make it 1,2 for India after 12 rounds of shooting. But the 24 year old faltered in critical moments of the match and was eliminated in a shoot off with Daniel Rivers after both men were tied at 162.4 points after 16 rounds.
Ravi had to settle for the 4th place. The fans at the arena were on their toes as there was another shoot-off between Rivers and Baki for the bronze after both shooters were tied at 182.4 with two rounds to go.
Baki held his nerve as Rivers settled for bronze. Bindra showed his experience in the final two rounds as he outclassed his Bangladeshi opponent eventually winning by a difference of 3.2 points. Bindra had earlier announced that this will be his last Commonwealth Games. What a way to bid goodbye!
