Commonwealth Games : India Pockets all Golds in Pairs

New Delhi, February 26: Both men and women shooters from India continued to keep up their great form by pocketing all golds in the three Pairs events of today. India continues to lead the medal tally with 33 gold, 21 silver and 11 bronze medals in the ongoing VIII Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championship 2010.

Samaresh Jung and Gurpreet Singh of India bagged the first gold of the day for the country in the men’s 25m Standard Pistol (Pairs) with 1121 points. England’s Michael Gault and Iqbal Ubhi bagged the silver medal with 1097 points. Steve Pengelly and Green Alan of Wales scored 1096 points to bag the bronze medal.

Samaresh Jung of India scored 575 points to bag the gold badge in the men’s 25m Standard Pistol individualevent. Vijay Kumar of India bagged the silver badge with 565 points and England’s Michael Gault won the bronze badge with 556.

In the men’s 50m Rifle Prone (Pairs) India’s Gagan Narang and Joydeep Karmakar won the gold medal with 1186 points setting a Meet record in the category. Australia’s Robert Howell and Warren Potent bagged the silver medal with 1182 points. England’s James Huckle and Richard Wilson bagged the bronze medal with 1179 points.

Common wealth Shooting

In the women’s 10m Air Pistol (Pairs) India’s Shweta Chaudhary and Pushpanjali Rana bagged the gold medal with 755 points. England’s Georgina Geikie and Julia Lydall bagged the silver medal with 743 points. Danielle Jones and Nicola Wilson of Wales bagged the bronze Medal with 727 points.

Shweta Chaudhary of India won the gold badge with an Individual score of 384 points in the women’s 10m Air Pistol badge event. Interestingly Annuraj Singh of India, the third member of the team shot well to bag the silver badge with an impressive score of 384 points. England’s Georgina Geikie bagged the bronze badge with 379 points.

Content with her performance Shweta Chaudhary said, “This range is very special for me as I began my shooting career from here. Being my home ground I am happy to perform well and hope to maintain the same during the Commonwealth Games. I am really happy with the facilities at the range especially the latest technologies used in the scoring. The LCD screens used here are among best in the world.”

In a very close finish in the women’s 50m Rifle Prone (Individual) Johanne Brekke of Wales bagged the second Gold for her country with 594 points. Kay Copland of Scotland took home the Silver medal with 593 points. Robyn Van Nus of Australia bagged the Bronze medal with 592 points.

Women’s Skeet Elena Allen of Wales bagged the Gold medal with 92 points. Sian Bruce of Scotland bagged the Silver medal with 90 points. Cerys Evans of Wales won the Bronze medal with 86 points.

In men’s Skeet (Qualifying) Mairaj Ahmed Khan of India lead the point tally with 73 points, closely followed by Drew Christie of Scotland with 72 points at second position. India’s Arozepal Singh stood at third along with Rory Warlow (England) and P. P Singh (India) with 71 points each. The final for the same will be played tomorrow.
