Narang wins bronze at Beijing Shooting World Cup

Gagan Narang, ace Indian shooter claimed the bronze medal in the 10 meter air rifle event at the Beijing Shooting World Cup on Sunday. The shooter from Hyderabad who came up with 597 in the qualifying , made 103.3 in the final round which turned his total score to 700.3 enabling him to win his sixth world cup medal and second bronze in the Beijing. He has achieved the same feat in2008. He missed the silver and gold medals by a narrow margin.

Denis Sokolov of Russia won the gold medal by scoring 597 in the qualifying round and making 104.3 in the final round to make his total score of701.3. The silver medal was bagged by Zhu Kinan of China who shot 701.2(598+103.2)

Though Narang was disappointed to miss the gold medal ,he said that it will not dampen his spirit and he hoped that he will give his best in Commonwealth Games.

The rest of Indian shooters failed to impress as Sanjeev Rajput and PT Raghunath were not able to qualify for the final round and after finishing 24th and 25th respectively.

The women shooters also did not impress with Arti Singh shooting a 63 out of 75 with rounds of 22, 20, 21 to finish 16th in a field of 25. Saniya Sheikh wast bottom with a total of 45.
