Indian skeet shooter Ganemat Sekhon made it to the final of the ISSF Shotgun World Cup only to finish in the sixth spot in Lonato, Italy on June 17, Monday.

Unfortunately, none of the men’s skeet shooters in the campaign made the top-six cut from the qualification round on the penultimate day of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Shotgun World Cup.

Moving into the details of the women’s skeet final event, Ganemat had put up a dismal show, managing 16 hits out of the first 20 in the 60-shot final. Eventually, she was the first finalist to bow out of the campaign.

2016 Rio Olympics champion Diana Bacosi from Italy grabbed the gold medal with 57 hits. USA’s Dania Jo Vizzo bagged the silver medal with 56 hits while Austen Jewell Smith from the USA settled for the bronze medal with 45 hits.

Ganemat Sekhon had an impressive qualification round

Earlier in the day, Ganemat Sekhon shot a perfect 25 in her fifth and final qualification round for a total of 120 over five rounds. However, that tied her with three other shooters for the final three qualification spots.

Nevertheless, a shoot-off helped Ganemat shoot the first three to secure the sixth position as Daniella Borda of Peru was eliminated.

In the final, Ganemat Sekhon started well, hitting the four targets on the first station, along with Dania Jo Vizzi of the USA and the eventual champion Diana. Then, she managed to secure only seven of the initial 10, which descended her back in the tally.

Though she missed only one of the next 10 shots, it was not enough for the Indian to propel further in the final as she became the first finalist to face elimination.

Moving forward to the other results in the women’s Skeet, Maheshwari Chauhan (114) finished at the 30th rank while Raiza Dhillon (111) settled for the 41st rank.

In the men’s skeet event, Sheeraz Sheikh (120) and Anantjeet Singh Naruka (120) shot identical scores to end in the 36th and 37th spots. Kuldeep Sanyashi (113), Mairaj Ahmad (113), and Arjun Thakur (111) settled for 93rd, 94th and 105th ranks respectively.
