India has always performed quite consistently at the Paralympics except for the break the country took after the 1972 Games. Since making a return to the competition in 1984, India has not missed a single edition of the Paralympic Games.
This year, 19 athletes travel to Rio to compete on the biggest stage for paralympic sports in the world. After a disappointing run in the Rio Olympics, it is heartening to see the outpour of support the inspirational athletes receive from the country.
The squad includes veterans like Naresh Kumar Sharma, a para-shooter who has participated in every edition of the Paralympics since 1996, and the celebrated para-athlete, Devendra Jhajharia, who won for India its second ever Gold medal at the Paralympics.
The Games take place between the 7th to the 18th of September and will be celebrated as enthusiastically as the Olympics were. The Paralympics is a chance for a number of inspiring sportspersons from around the world to compete in various disciplines.
