The first shotgun event in shooting of the 2016 Rio Olympics will begin on Sunday, with the Men’s trap event kicking things off. The rules of the Trap event vary significantly from the Rifle and Pistol events.
In the trap event, an individual clay target is seen using a shotgun. The targets are thrown from a trap that is placed under them as they fire from five different positions. The participant must move from one station to another after the athlete ahead of them has finished taking their shot.
The event is split into three stages- the qualification round, semifinal and final.
In the Men’s Trap event, there are 125 targets to fire which are split into five rounds of 25. The women, in contrast, have 75 targets which are divided into three rounds. The athletes need to keep moving from one station to another and fire a total of 5 shots in each round. Each athlete has two shots per target.
