Ace Indian shooter Ronjan Sodhi today earned world’s top spot in double trap shooting, as announced by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) when releasing their latest rankings. Until recently, Mittal Champion Sodhi was ranked number 2 in the world and number 1 in Asia in the double trap category.
Over the past few years Mittal Champion Ronjan Sodhi has consistently won major international competitions. His recent successes include setting a new world record and winning a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in 2010 followed by a title win at the Shotgun World Cup. These two wins are instrumental in Ronjan’s pursuit of the top spot. In the recently concluded Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010, Ronjan had won two Silver medals and closed the year with a Gold medal in the Asian Games.
The World No. 1 double trap shooter is now focusing on the forthcoming Olympic Games. Commenting on his intensive training schedule, Ronjan said, “For London 2012, I am working on mental conditioning to ensure consistency as competitive sports at the Olympic level is a lot about focus, concentration and nerves. I am fortunate to receive comprehensive support from the Mittal Champions Trust. They have supported me since the initial days of my professional career and the results are there for all to see. Together with world class experts I am determined to work hard towards an Olympic Gold.”
On Ronjan’s success, Mr Amit Bhatia, Founder, Mittal Champions Trust said, “Ronjan is one of India’s finest talents. We are proud of his achievements and are committed to walk with him on his journey to an Olympic Gold. This is a great moment for sports in India and we have every faith that Ronjan will make us proud at London 2012.”
The ISSF world ranking system is based on two key factors of the shooting performance. It includes beside the placing (rank) of the shooter also the result achieved by the shooters in the 15 Olympic shooting events at ISSF supervised championships and competitions. In the last 15 years, only five shooters have shot world records or equaled the same; Mittal Champion Sodhi is one of them.
Ronjan has been a Mittal Champion since 2007. He has already qualified for the 2012 London Olympics and is one of India’s strongest medal prospects.
