Glasgow, July 28 (IANS) A lot was expected from Indian shooters Meena Kumari and Lajja Gauswami, but they failed to earn a medal from the women's 50-metre rifle prone finals at the Commonwealth Games on Monday.

On a day when all three Indian medals came from shooting, Meena and Lajja could only manage to finish sixth and 11th at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre.

New Zealander Sally Johnston took home the gold with a total of 620.7 points, closely followed by South Africa's Esmari van Reenen at 620.1, who took silver. Local girl Jen Mcintosh clinched the bronze with a tally of 619.5 points.

India's Meena, who was placed second at one stage, totalled 615.3 points, while Lajja finished with 612.3.

Earlier in the day, Jitu Rai and Gurpal Singh won the men's 50m pistol gold and silver, respectively, followed by Gagan Narang's men's 50m rifle prone silver.
