PREDAZZO, Italy (AFP) –

Poland’s Kamil Stoch soars through the air at the Men’s Normal Hill event of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships at the Ski Jumping stadium in Predazzo, north Italy on February 23, 2013. Stoch won ski jump gold at the Nordic world championships on Thursday but World Cup leader Gregor Schlierenzauer only managed eighth place.

Poland’s Kamil Stoch won ski jump gold at the Nordic world championships on Thursday but World Cup leader Gregor Schlierenzauer only managed eighth place.

Stoch took the large hill title with 295.8 points as Slovenia’s Peter Prevc, the bronze medallist on the small hill, claimed silver on 289.7pts.

Norway’s Anders Jacobsen, on 289.1pts, took bronze.

Austria’s Schlierenzauer, the winner of the prestigious Four Hills tournament, as well as being the overall World Cup leader, managed only 279.2pts after a disastrous first jump.

Norway’s Anders Bardal, the small hill gold medallist, finished 11th.
