Some Movies, books & TV programs are occasionally over weighed and video games are not different in this matter. It maybe because of the long waiting periods of its release that creates this buzz. However sometimes these games do dissapoint us, from what we may have imagined. We’re not saying that these games aren’t good, this is just our opinion on the most hyped and overrated video games of all time.So if your favourite games are in the list, please do take it light heartedly. It’s only an opinion.
#12 Assassins Creed

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise has turned out be one of the greatest frachises in the history of gaming. It was one of the most critically acclaimed games, and fans also enjoyed the unique gripping experience of the game. Later as the game proceeded, gamers grew tired of Assassin’s Creed’s repetitive nature.
The fighting and stealth mechanics of the geme was also critisized, some also felt that the A.I. was poor and not challenging at all. The controls of the game made platforming and climbing really awkward. Every year we get a new iteration of the game, released with some small twists.
#11 BioShock Infinite
The game was praised for its amazing graphics, like it has great solid smooth effects like the rain drops to the rays and the flares and fades of the crisp clean palette of colors. Even the game’s sound overall were perfect.
The major dissapintment was the gameplay and the overall game experience was felt nothing special. If you’ve played previous BioShock games, you will agree that the combat and gameplay sucks. You literally walk from one place to another shooting the same type of enemies over and over just to continue the story, it's repetitive and tedious. The storyline was also not that great, for a game that was overhyped .
#10 L.A. Noire
Another game overrated by critics, underrated by gamers. LA Noire sold like hot pie, it was all due to the hype created by the Rockstar collaboration, but the game did not live up to it.
Facial expressions were the only factor that was really good, but the storyline was very straight, case after case. Few hours into the game you feel tired and it turns out there is no open world and you cant even pull out your gun or blow shit up at all and go GTA. If you really want to play the game, you can play it on a weekly basis, like one case a week. So that you don’t feel bored too soon.
#9 Half Life 2
Firstly, there is nothing interesting in the story, immensly lacking depth. Second, poor graphics. this game didn't have that good graphics. In 2004, we had games like Halo 2 and GTA: San Andreas that had graphics at least on par with if not better than Half Life 2's. The character modeling also looks amateur. Finally, bland characters. We only see about four charecters in the game , ie G-man, the doctor, Alyx, and her father. None of them are particularly memorable.
The gameplay is also average with no no depth to it. You just go head on and kill everything in your way, with the exception of the occasional puzzle that doesn't really contribute to the story but just extends the length of the game. Surely one of the most hyped games. We would expect something more from Valve.
#8 Sonic the Hedgehog Game
Sonic the Hedgehog made its appearence in the early 1991 .It was major venture for Sega after their blockbuster game Mario. The initial Sonic games were sucessfull, but later Sega messed things up and released one title after other. The games were pointless with no entertainment. It was very fast paced with lazy repetitive level designs
The graphics were nice and the soundtracks were great but the gameplay itself was weak. Compared to any of the Mario games it was a joke in a gameplay department. But the game was fun overall.
#7 God of War
God of War is not really doing anything ground-breaking, and it doesn't have much depth of story, but its bringing us back to a simpler age of fiction. God of War is a revival of classic simple-minded videogames with modern video game technology. Rather than using the technology to create a riveting character full of depth and to create a work of complex art like many games try to, God of War uses the tech to make everything more awesome. More awesome violence, more awesome levels, more awesome stuff to do. It is one of the most overrated and hyped video game in the hird person action-adventure video games .
“God of War is simply that: A modern revival of simplistic video games based on black-and-white morals and relentless violence.”
#6 Call of Duty 4
Main dissapointment is the short single player mode which barely last for 6 hours. Then the AI, very poor ,you can actually get killed shot through the walls even before they see you. The gameplay mechanics are recycled from previous games and get too repetetive at time going a little something like this sprint, shoot, crouch, sprint and wash rise and repeat. This game is almost similar to CoD2 with perks and semi destructible environments added making the game even worse. Being a war game it doesn’t have one vechile you can use in multiplayer. The level design of some of the maps isnt really that great either and it also has only 2 player splitscreen
For a game that has 9 plus rating, we definitely expect something more form Infinity Ward. According to me CoD4 is just another modern warfare theme game thats just a little bit better than the rest but nothing special.
#5 Minecraft
It’s perhaps the most controversial title on this list. We have to appreciate the wonderful gaming romanticism associated with an infinite world of pure imagination in Minecraft. You can build whatever you want, construct your own home, city, computer or machine of some kind, invite others to join you in your virtual world of personal creativity. It's the kinda game that you either love or you hate.
I personally felt that the single player mode is too boring after 15-30 minutes into the game. Even the modded versions are also seems boring after a while.
#4 Skyrim
Many of you reading this maybe a hardcore Skyrim fan, but I have to say that it’s definitely a overrated game and here is the reason : Graphics is one of the main reason for Skyrim to be on this list. I do understand that it was a very long game and with a better graphics, it would have been great. Another overrated element of Skyrim is the Combat. The dual wielding system is quite good, but all you do is hit two buttons see the animation used on enemies who do nothing but run at you kamikaze style and get themselves killed. The Technical Faults, the visual aspect is not that great, for instance the game freezes for a few seconds while it loads the dragon shouts, and moving about cities is a more clunky process than intended.
#3 Final Fantasy
Again another critically acclaimed video game. I feel Final Fantasy is a painfully average turn based japanese role playing game, has mediocre gameplay, undeserved marketing hype from the media, generic, and is absolutely nothing special.
Final fantasy 7 is an average JRPG, and it fails to deliver its expected features, similar to all RPG games, and continues to torture the player with broken game mechanics and incompetent story. The story and the game mechanics do not go well together and thus creates an awkward situation for the player since he/she cannot relate to the situation in a RPG environment.
#2 Halo
Another first person shooter on this list. We all know that Halo is an insanely popular video game franchise. It has great music and the unique use of ring worlds were nice touches but the gameplay never blew me away.
The major setbacks are the graphics and artwork are dull, and the awful controls made it excruciating to play on the PC because of bad console porting and the vehicles were frequently clunky and infuriating to pilot. It’s certainly a solid title, it’s just not the revolution in gaming it’s been made out to be.
#1 GTA IV
GTA IV is definitely on the most entertaining game and it scored a Perfect 10 on IGN. It has some pretty good control and a great game play. The reason for it to be on this list is that there have been lot of complaints on it being very glitchy.
Gamers have encountered massive pop ins, terrible lip synching, cars getting stuck into walls, terrible collision detection and the worst of all, the fighting and shooting mechanics, it is completely broken. The baseball bats swing right through peoples torsos as if they were ghosts, and the characters hand going right through doors while trying to open them, perfect headshots that hit nothing but air and tons of other small glitches that simply ruins the gaming experience.
