It takes finesse to execute a perfect drop shot. Tennis players around the world spend hours practicing this shot so that they get it right when it matters the most, during a match. Drop shots are often played to surprise opponents in the middle of a rally by gently chipping the ball over the net. Baseline rallies are exciting to watch, but a drop shot at the right time giving very little chances to your opponent get to the ball win you a point. #5 Roger Federer Vs Denis Kudla, Indian Wells, 2012
Roger Federer is toying with Denis Kudla in a match at ATP 1000 Indian Wells in 2012. He had broken Kudla twice in the second set after winning the first set 6-4. The 17-time Grand Slam champion was involved in a rally before playing the drop shot much to Kudla’s amazement.

In the final of the 2009 Aegon Championships, James Blake played a superb drop shot off his backhand. Andy Murray gets to the ball and replies with a better drop shot and the ball spins away before the American can put his racket onto it.

Grigor Dimitrov returned Novak Djokovic’s serve on the baseline and started to attack the Serb’s forehand returns. The Bulgarian had a trick up his sleeve as he played a forehand drop shot which was applauded by the fans and Djokovic!

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have been involved in some of the greatest tennis matches ever. In the semifinals of the 2011 Madrid Open, Federer had chances to finish off the rally on many occasions, but the fighter that Nadal is, the Swiss couldn’t capitalise on those chances.
He then employed this drop shot which the Spaniard, one of the most athletic players on the tour couldn’t get to.
