5 possible opponents for the Rock if he returns to WWE

Dwayne The Rock Johnson is a superstar without whom the history of WWE wouldnt be complete. He was one of the most instrumentals figures in keeping Vince McMahons company afloat during rough tides and the fans still sees him as a big part of the company.Rock is a big draw which sells out arenas across the world and even in a part time basis; WWE would still love to have him in the roster. This is the motive behind the urge of fans to see him wrestle whenever he teases a return just like he did a few days back.A return match from Rock is surely going to be a big moment for the company at this stage where they are having creative and financial problems. The question however would be: Who will face Rock when he returns; well here is a look at the possibilities.

#5 Sting

Now that Sting’s association with WWE is out in the light, it would be safe to pit him up against some dream opponents and Rock is someone who tops that list.

Sting going against Undertaker might be a match that the fans would love to see, but considering how weak Taker is after his encounter with Lesnar, even if WWE makes the match happen, it wouldn’t be something worth remembering.

Rock on the other hand is physically more fit compared to the Phenom and could deliver the goods. Sting would have someone who could carry him throughout the match rather than a battered Taker and a debut against Rock would be big enough to sell out the tickets.

#4 John Cena

Once in a life time wasn’t enough for WWE as they figured out that having Cena and Rock in the same ring is a quick way of steering out of a financial crisis. The two have faced twice at WrestleMania splitting one win each leaving the possibility of another match open.

Fans who love to jeer Cena might not agree with the proposal of him facing Rock again, but on a bigger note, there isn’t a match bigger than this that WWE could give.

It’s a battle between two generations and matches like these have always managed to keep the fans rooted to their seats. Another torch passing moment is what the fans would love to see with this match making this one special at all levels.

#3 Bray Wyatt

If WWE takes a list of the best microphone workers that they’ve had in their history, Rock and Bray Wyatt are two names who are going to be in the top ten without much competition.

It’s so sad that these two superstars were in their primes at entirely different times meaning that the fans missed a great long feud. However, the chances of having one match and a brief exchange between the two is still a possibility.

The WWE fans wouldn’t show any hesitation in paying to see Bray and Rock face eachother inside the ring while the promos they deliver would be an add-on bonus. Also Bray will get a bigger stage to showcase his talent if he is facing Rock.

#2 Brock Lesnar

A match between Brock Lesnar and Rock was in the buildup when WWE was preparing their WrestleMania 30 match card. However, it was Rock’s injury which stopped the company from materializing this match and thus ending Undertaker’s streak.

Ending Taker’s streak has pushed Lesnar into a level which Rock would love to be in. As they say, if you have to be the best, you got to beat the best.

Just like the Cena – Rock match, this is another one which could draw multi-platform fans to the arena. The man who ended the streak looking to end the wrestling career of a Hollywood star can be a credible story in all aspects. And as always, Paul Heyman would be gold on mic.

#1 Roman Reigns

At this stage, this match might sound like a long shot but at the pace with which Reigns is getting his push, it’s something which we could see before Rock decides to hang up his boots. WWE and their fans have always been fond of family feuds and they could do the same here.

Reigns is at a point of his career where he needs a big enough opponent to reach the next stage. Cena might get the ticket first ahead of Rock but after hat WWE could make this match happen.

Rock losing out to Reigns would be a result of historic significance making Reigns the true face of WWE.

This would make the route easier for WWE in getting him there and of course, the whole world would know that there is someone from Rock’s family who is able to fill the void that he left.
