The WWE creative team has been throwing in some interesting angles after WrestleMania as they were in a great attempt to give everyone in the roster a storyline backup for their matches.Storylines ranged from incredibly ridiculous to excellent ones, but it the presence of some meaning to the matches made them look better. And amidst of all those efforts, the panic button has been hit now that the companys stocks are dipping.Vince McMahon is believed to be on a high to fire his unwanted employees and the creative team will be feeling extra heat to deliver at Payback on Chicago despite them piling up some midcard angles. The success of the pay-per-view would largely depend on the foundation that the creative set for the next phase and here is a look at the possible storylines that could sprout out from the PPV.
#5 Birth of a heel Sheamus
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
The Celtic Warrior has been on a mission to make the United States title relevant again. And to be frank he has been spot on with his efforts so far.
However, before he got his hands on the title, Sheamus was someone who was becoming stale as a character. His face run wasn’t taking any successful turn and this led to many reports of a possible heel turn.
Though the title makes him relevant, it won’t be late before the aura of the title goes. And WWE will have to turn Sheamus heel anyways. He faces Cesaro at Payback and if WWE decides to let Cesaro take away the title, we could see Sheamus turning heel and joining Evolution as well.
Even if he doesn’t drop the title, a possible heel turn is coming soon for Sheamus.
#4 Transformation of Paige
One of the biggest criticisms that WWE had in the recent months was the ill booking that they were giving to the superstars that got promoted from NXT.
Paige in particular has been suffering a lot due to this. In NXT, she was a cocky Anti-Diva who had no fear in stepping into the ring. But when she came into the main roster, Paige turned into an Underdog who often came back after a slow start to win the matches.
However, WWE will have to let her drop that underdog style and regain her old one if they are to make her shine. Paige is someone who sparkles on the microphone and she has to be ready for AJ Lee’s return.
So a great and dominating win over Alicia Fox might be the start of a new chapter for the reigning champion who otherwise might go stale over time.
#3 Vince McMahons return
Vince McMahon has been someone who appeared as the back bone of this company whenever there was a situation of crisis in the business.
Apparently WWE is going through a similar stage at the moment and it would be a matter of time before Vince McMahon decides to make changes on screen after he started stirring up things in the backstage. The best storyline that he could walk into is the Daniel Bryan one.
Bryan has been struggling against the Authority on his own and Vince could prove to be a big addition to his side. This could open the door for a potential father- daughter feud over the running on the company as well.
McMahon’s presence will be a good thing to shut the Chicago fans up as they will be otherwise busy chanting for CM Punk.
#2 Bray Wyatt becoming the biggest heel in the company
The battle between John Cena and Bray Wyatt started way back in the Royal Rumble and has been stretched all the way to Payback.
However, Payback is most likely to be the last chapter of the Cena – Wyatt saga. The biggest hint that we got about this is the stipulation that has been added to the match. The last man standing matches are usually WWE’s way of saying that they are done with the feuds.
If Cena decides to put over Bray and lose, this means that we will be witnessing the birth of a cult leader who conquered the biggest thing in WWE. Bray will be at the top of the mountain looking to go higher.
He will simply become the biggest heel in the company after the win surpassing the lights of Evolution and Stephanie McMahon which is a big achievement.
#1 Roman Reigns stamping his place as the top superstar in Shield
Back when the Shield was having their heel run, WWE was giving Reigns a great amount of spotlight. The great push that he got at Survivor Series and Royal Rumble was a part of this but the face turn that Shield had almost took the spotlight away.
Though Reigns was there, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were making a name for themselves and the Shield was breaking out as a team rather than Reigns alone.
At Extreme Rules as well, even though Reigns was the last one standing, Rollins overshadowed with his high spot while Ambrose showed his maniac side with the drop from stairs.
But at Payback, WWE will be looking to put Reigns over alone. The elimination stipulations added to the match is well suited for the same as Reigns could come out as the one who made his team win.
So it will be a great pay-per-view for Reigns without any doubt and we could see his stocks rising as we head closer and closer to SummerSlam.
