The Hardy Boyz, D-Generation X and CM PunkWWE might be on the very top of the wrestling business, but there are a number of superstars that they have wasted with deplorable booking – John Morrison. Shelton Benjamin, Chris Masters – the list goes on. Fans do hope that many of such superstars return to the ring. Rumours were abuzz with Kurt Angle making a return to the WWE last year, but they have been squashed for now. While there are many wrestlers whom we wish were back in the WWE, there are many wrestlers – for one reason or other – should not return to the WWE.This list takes a look at five of them.
#1 CM Punk
Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE
CM Punk is still a huge draw – the WWE fans still chant his name at arenas throughout the United States, so it wouldn’t seem to be a bad idea to bring him back. But it shouldn’t happen. Not that the fans wouldn’t be happy to see him – but it would be contradictory to the very principles of Punk that attracted him a huge fan base in the first place.
Punk left the WWE because he was unhappy with the direction of the product, the health checkups and a lot more burning issues. He even received his termination letter on the day of his wedding – which, irrespective of whatever Vince McMahon says, is too much of a coincidence to give the WWE the benefit of the doubt for.
Punk has been openly critical of the WWE and for him to eat his words and come back to the company would just place himself in the category of a sellout – something which would definitely make Punk lose respect in front of his fans.
#2 Jeff Hardy
Jeff Hardy was one of the most popular superstars of the past decade – both as a tag team competitor and a singles superstar. But the younger Hardy also had problems with substance abuse and just couldn’t handle the grind of WWE’s grueling schedule.
Jeff should stay in TNA where the workload is comparatively light with lower chances of a relapse, even though Hardy did show up to TNA’s Victory road PPV three years ago visibly stoned.
But it seems more prudent not to allow a superstar who has repeatedly failed the company’s wellness policy to return to the company.
#3 Hulk Hogan
On one hand, it borders on ingratitude for the WWE not to have Hulk Hogan back in the company again; after all, Hulkamania made the WWE a household name in the 80s. However, Hogan’s later life antics have proved that he isn’t the Superhero the kids were led to believe he was.
Hogan has been caught on camera using racially abusive terms, a sex tape of Hogan getting intimate with a friend’s wife has been doing the rounds and he has also been accused by numerous wrestlers of monopolising the main event scene of every wrestling company he has worked with.
After the racial slur episode, WWE has cut all ties with him and it would be better if it stays the same.
#4 Vince Russo
True, Russo is not a wrestler, but the former WWE Creative member has damaged his reputation of the mid-nineties with a number of foolish career moves. Russo was said to be the architect behind WWE’s edgier storylines of the ‘Attitude era’ and he seemed to be a great coup for WCW when they signed him towards the end of the Monday night wars.
But Russo had one bad idea after another as the WCW booker and such visionary ideas like ‘things on a pole’ matches made WCW a horrible show to watch. WCW sunk and soon after that he was back on the scene as a booker at TNA. That fell flat as well and he has been irrelevant since then.
WWE would never want to sign him again as he has bad mouthed the company multiple times in the past.
#5 Carlito
Not that we wouldn’t want to see Carlito back in the WWE – he was an extremely entertaining superstar with a quick mouth and great ring presence. Carlito made his WWE debut on SmackDown, beating John Cena to win the United States title on his very first night as part of the main roster.
He would win the Intercontinental title on his first Raw appearance as well, in addition to hosting the talk show segment – Carlito’s Cabana. But Carlito’s push slowly waned and he was even pushed down to near jobber status during his final days with the company – acting as a henchman for Ted Dibiase, Jr once.
The reason that Carlito shouldn’t return to the WWE is because the company is not going to use him in a way that fully exploits his potential. He was even offered a return deal last year, but for a very little amount of money.
The son of Puerto Rican legend Carlos Colon need not take such a career nosedive and Carlito is talented enough to find success in other promotions.
