#3 The reason behind the name

Any big independent wrestler coming into WWE undergoes a name change as Vince McMahon has this hobby of copyrighting. Devitt wasn’t spared from this as well when he was renamed as Finn Balor in NXT.

There were a lot of criticism about Devitt’s name but apparently he chose the name himself. Hailing from Ireland, Devitt made good use of the Irish language to carve out a name that had a good meaning.

The first part of the name Finn, comes from the Irish and means Warrior while the latter part of the name, Balor, is from the Irish Mythology.

Balor was the chief of a demonic race that threatened the people of Ireland which might also hint that he will be a heel once he comes into the main roster.
