Barrett’ career has been a topsy turvy rideNot everyone on WWE’s roster had a banner 2015. While Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins and John Cena continued to pave the way for success, there were plenty of wrestlers who underperformed, even disappointed because of potential, ability and fan support. This isn’t new. For every Steve Austin, there is a Charlie Cook or the Mulkey’s. And just because wrestlers are superstars on month, it does not mean they are on top of wrestling’s Mt. Rushmore the next. Wrestling really is a “what have you done for me lately business.”In any event, these wrestlers were major disappointments in 2015.
#1 Cody Rhodes
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Whether he is the son of the late Dusty Rhodes or Stardust, there hasn’t been much excitement from the second generation wrestler. Now, Rhodes is nothing more than a cartoonish character who is one of the more talented performers on the roster.
His feud with Neville helped elevate the former NXT star and left Rhodes still searching for a true identity for this star. What happens in 2016 is anyone’s guess. I would love to see Rhodes become part of the tag team division or possible a true contender in the mid card.
#2 Dolph Ziggler
He is potentially the best performer in a WWE ring. Ziggler is a former World Champion and has been minimalized to a jobber – nothing more.
The “love” angles with Summer Rae and Lana, not to mention the admission he still has feelings for Nikki Bella, has me and fans wondering he is a wrestler or a Lothario.
Ziggler could still be a contender for the World Title, but would WWE put their trust back in him? Right now, he is destined to be a part of the mid-card, who on occasions, teases us with his ability and the fact he sells for his opponents better than almost everyone on the roster.
#3 Wade Barrett
The “King” of WWE was an Intercontinental Champion until Wrestlemania. Since then, he has been nothing more than a sideshow and a jobber at best.
The association with Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio and Rusev actually helps Barrett the most. Will he compete for a title again? We aren’t sure about that. He was a potential world champion before an injury two years ago and he looks like he could be one of the better brawlers in the company.
Still, it looks like his time has passed. Look for him to be resourceful for the company until the League of Nations angle wears out. Also, he could be destined for the tag team scene.
#4 Naomi
Before the “Revolution” Naomi was the best female athlete in the company. That all changed a couple of months ago.
WWE should have put the Divas Title on her when she was in a program with Nikki Bella. Now, she is part of the mess of Team BAD and she will never sniff a chance at competing for the title again.
As long as the continued push for Charlotte, Paige, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks, we can forget seeing Naomi in any kind of real program that has a meaning. If there was anyone who was hurt the most by the new influx of talent, it was her.
#5 Vince McMahon
Yes, the owner of WWE made the list.
Bad planning, poor storylines and not bringing in the best creative team possible is just part of the problem with the company. Add the fact there is no competition outside of the company and you have a situation where every idea, gimmick and script has been exhausted.
Who knew at some point, the well would run dry, but it has and McMahon has nobody to blame for the problems that exist other than himself. We expected more from the man who changed wrestling and sports entertainment forever.
