Professional wrestling was never about those millions of people chanting your name or the fat pay checks that came along. Okay, it was but it wasnt everything. The amount of hard work that was put in by the superstars (Unless you were working for WCW back in the Monday Night wars) is always a big factor when it comes to the wrestling business. The jam packed schedule and demands of the business leech out the every ounce of energy in a wrestlers body and once the limit comes, he has to call it a day. Some superstars out there know the perfect time while some other hangs around for longer than they should. There is handful of names in WWE roster that belong to the latter category and here is a look at them.
#6 Honorable Mention: Daniel Bryan
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Personally I would love to see Bryan go on to wrestle another decade, but then again it would only be a selfish dream. The doctors didn’t know what Bryan’s problem was after the surgery and he is taking a big risk by stepping back into the ring again.
The guy deserves immense amount of respect for that courage. Every match and every move for that matter is going to be battle between life and death for Bryan and before it gets too far, he should hang up his wrestling boots.
#5 Big Show
Big Show has been in the wrestling business for nearly two decades and has done everything he could have done in that period. He became a WCW champion, WWE Champion and even became an ECW Champion though the WWE’s version is not considered anywhere near the original.
Despite having so many achievements to his name, his last few years in WWE have been nothing short of ridiculous. He underwent a million turns in that time and was shuttled back and forth between the midcard and main event scene.
He is physically slowing down as well, and the options Show has are limited. He could stretch his career and make a fool out of himself or just call it a day and walk out with head high.
#4 Mark Henry
Welcome to the world of professional wrestling where a man of Henry’s size has been laid out with a serious injury. For everyone calling it fake, this would be a great slap on the face, period.
This injury is just one of the big headaches that Henry has during his career. Last year, he attracted a lot of main stream attention with the retirement angle but that turned out to be a swerve against John Cena. However, this time, Henry should call it a day.
During his early days, Vince was so high on Henry that he wanted to push Henry just like Rock. That didn’t happen and Henry’s career has been a roller coaster ride ever since. With his size and limited skills there isn’t much Henry could do at this age and the piling injuries also point at imminent retirement.
#3 Vince McMahon
Agreed that he is one of the best wrestling promoters in history, but Vince McMahon is light years away from his prime. Vince is just throwing up some ridiculous ideas these days taking only Cena into considerations – probably his biggest mistake.
The lack of competition and some PG drug has left Vince complacent about the product. WWE is nothing more than childrens’ show these days with some occasional spark of brilliance.
Vince needs to leave the dynasty at the earliest and let Triple H take over since Hunter has proven himself through NXT. The old days of bunnies wrestling alligators should be gone and instead we should be given some good old wrestling.
#2 Undertaker
We are not yet sure on whether Undertaker is retired or not but if he isn’t, 2015 should be the year. The Phenom is having a blast these days with his family and he should let it stay that way instead of getting back in the ring.
The last time we saw Taker, he was in no condition to wrestle and there were stories of him struggling to heal the effects of that match. Sting and Bray Wyatt are considered as opponents for Taker at this year’s Mania but if he wrestle’s it should be his last.
Taker has a legacy in the business that is going to be alive as long as wrestling and there wouldn’t be a difference if he wrestles one match less or one match more. That’s the bottom line.
#1 John Cena
A section of the WWE Universe loves John Cena and a section of WWE Universe hates John Cena. One thing that the latter category should understand is about the hard work that Cena puts into the business.
He has been on top of the mountain for nearly a decade now while others like Steve Austin and Rock survived for five years maximum. If Cena wants he could leave wrestling and have a Hollywood career like Rock – or he could have walked away like Austin when he was booked in the WrestleMania XXX mid card this year.
But he stuck around because after all, this is what he loves. Cena however, has been giving his all for years, and it is time he call it a day. Almost every part of his body has suffered injury and the Cenation leader is already on borrowed time.
Ending his career in 2015 will not only be a big attraction for WWE but also will help new names take the centre stage. As for Cena, he could take a much needed rest and try alternative career options while he is still fit.
