Some of the superstars who had solid WWE debuts to their name went on to become legendary names in the business while others fizzled out with time. We know very well about the former category and it has been analyzed numerous times as well. So this time around, we are going to take a look at the latter category. With that said, here are those superstars whose momentum fizzled out despite having an impressive debut to their name.
#7 The Boogeyman
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Boogeyman was not one of those wrestlers who would have succeeded in WWE. He was an average wrestler at best but he did have a great debut in WWE. He had weird paint all over him and to make him look creepier, Boogeyman used to smash a clock over his head before eating worms. Altogether, it was a gimmick that sparked curiosity in the minds of WWE fans.
He could have had a spell as a midcard heel but instead, WWE booked him in short matches and treated him like he was someone who came from a horror movie. Boogeyman was probably never seen as a ‘wrestler’ and this ultimately cost him big time.
#6 The Ascension
The debut of Ascension was one of the most awaited ones in recent history. They had a great run down in NXT and everyone out there wanted to see them being called up to the main roster. A major portion of the WWE ban base went mad when they saw Ascension’s debut in the main roster, but this excitement was short lived.
The team which was one of the most dominating duos in NXT received some forgettable booking and soon, they were relegated to jobber status. WWE’s hobby of trying to recreate former the magic of legendary tag teams was to blame for the fall, but irrespective of what happened, Ascension’s stock fell.
#5 Mohammad Hassan
People are split when it comes to Mohammad Hassan. Some say that he had a successful stint in WWE while other says that he didn’t. Either way, the time he spent in WWE was memorable. He had a great debut back in 2004 along with Daivari and the Arab American gimmick was accepted by the fans. Hassan went on to have a lot of wins against midcarders and he even defeated Superstars like Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit.
WWE soon pitted Hassan against big names like Shawn Michaels, Batista and Cena before deciding to let him have a storyline with The Undertaker. Now, to this point, the character of Hassan was having good momentum but thanks to a controversial segment that WWE filmed, Hassan’s character was taken off from television. Imagine where he would have reached if it wasn’t for the same.
#4 Chris Masters
Chris Masters is one of those names which is hard to forget. He had an excellent physique, good looks and some solid wrestling skills. Masters made his debut back in 2005 and called himself the ‘Masterpiece’. He attracted a lot of eyes towards him with his physique and though it was a squash match against Steven Richards, Masters did get a big push from the commentators.
The Master Lock, in particular, went on to become phenomenon in the company and Masters got involved with some names like Shawn Michaels, and Big Show. Despite the talent he possessed, WWE booked him in random matches and he was soon released after violating the wellness policy of WWE.
#3 MVP
MVP was presented into the WWE Universe as a ‘coveted free agent’. WWE then tagged him as the most paid superstar on the roster. His first major feud came against Kane. MVP was put over by the ‘Big Red Machine’ and he did get some heel heat during the time. MVP then moved on to the United States Championship scene and went on to become the longest reigning US Champion.
MVP’s career was derailed once he dropped the title and after a brand switch, he soon left WWE. MVP later had spells in New Japan Pro Wrestling and TNA but his run in WWE will always be tagged as a forgettable one.
#2 Snitsky
Whenever Snitsky’s name comes into discussion, the first thing that comes to our mind is the miscarriage angle that he did with Lita and Kane, and that was his debut as well. Although the angle wasn’t correct on various levels, WWE did manage to make Snitsky look like a good heel and he thirved on the same. Once the angle with Kane ended, Snitsky found it hard to stay relevant and was put into random matches and tag teams afterwards.
Snitsky then had a spell in WWE’s ECW and before being released in 2008. WWE failed to capitalize on the monstrous superstar despite the strong finish and hopefully Strowman wouldn’t end up like this.
#1 Tensai
The debut of Tensai was projected as a big deal by WWE. Although he earlier had spells as Albert and A-Train in the company, WWE wanted him to be a new guy on the block and this backfired terribly. They did not incorporate the same into any kind of storyline and fans became tired of it. The gimmick was excellent on paper and it did have a thunderous debut as well.
WWE even let Tensai defeat John Cena on Monday Night Raw. Tensai eventually ended up being a failure due to his past and soon, he was seen dancing around with Brodus Clay, who happened to be another wasted talent on the roster.
