Adidas ads have featured heavily during the World Cup in the form of posters or televised ads. Thus, itshould come as no surprise as the German sportswear manufacturer is one of the tournaments main sponsors. Adidas has sponsored some of the worlds best footballers over the years and has constantly brought them under one roof to make some truly brilliant ads. Here are five of the best ones. #1 2014 World Cup commercial
This spectacular ad features Lionel Messi, who sends text messages to players like Robin Van Persie, David Villa, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Luis Suarez and Dani Alves to ask them what’s up. All of them reply in the negative but are actually training rigorously for the World Cup as they know they cannot be sloppy in Brazil. They either have to be all in or nothing.
#2 2010 World Cup commercial
Zinedine Zidane has always made good commercials for Adidas and continued his streak for the 2010 World Cup ad. The picturesque ad features Zidane arriving in South Africa, the venue for the 2010 edition of the tournament, to scout players like David Villa, Lionel Messi, Kaka, Steven Gerrard etc and see which one of them leads their country to glory and becomes a legend in the eyes of their countrymen.
#3 2006 World Cup commercial
This brilliant commercial features two young boys who suddenly decide to face off in a football match which features their favourite players like Djebril Cisse, Zinedine Zidane, Kaka, David Beckham, Jermain Defoe, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Olivier Kahn, Robben and............wait for it..............Michel Platini and Franz Beckenbauer. The match ends as quickly as it begins due to one of the boy’s mother scolding him much to the disappointment of all the players.
#4 2002 World Cup commercial
Who says you need special effects and stunts to make a great football ad. This particular ad, which aired heavily before the 2002 World Cup, contains no special effects but is hilarious and captures the viewers attention. In the ad footballers like Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham and Fabian Barthez are diagnosed with a unique condition known as ‘footballosis’ which makes the infected person play the beautiful game non-stop. Watch it for the laughs.
#5 1998 World Cup commercial
This Adidas ad is another one that doesn’t contain any special effects but that’s no deal breaker. The ad which features former players like Alessandro Del Piero, Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham among others shows the players trying on their boots and displaying their skills. The black and white setting also has its own charm.
