Commonwealth Games 2014: All the Indian gold medallists in Glasgow

India may not have repeated their Delhi 2010 games feat where they grabbed 101 medals, but performed reasonably well at the 20th edition of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.Let us take a look at Indian athletes who stood on top of the podium.

#1 Sanjita Khumukcham

SanjitaKhumukcham won Indias first gold medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth games. She lifted a total of 173 Kg (77 Kg in snatch and 96 Kg in clean and jerk) in womens 48 Kg weightlifting event.

It was double joy for India as Sanjitas CompatriotMirabai Chanu took the silver medal after lifting a total of 170 kg (75 + 95).

#2 Sukhen Dey

Sukhen Dey had won silver at the 2010 Delhi games. He went one better this year as he lifted a total of 248kg (109 kg in snatch, 139 kg in clean and jerk) to clinch gold in the 56 Kg weightlifting event.

India’s Ganesh Mali took home the bronze in the same event with a total lift of 244kg (111 kg in snatch, 133 kg in clean and jerk).

#3 Abhinav Bindra

Abhinav Bindra had never won an individual gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in his last four appearances. Before the start of 10m air rifle event, he had announced that this will be last CWG.

He signed out on a high as he clinched his maiden gold staving off stiff challenge from his compatriot Ravi Kumar and Bangladesh’s Abdullah Baki. The 2008 Olympic gold medallist finished with a score of 205.3 points.

#4 Apurvi Chandela

Apurvi Chandela showed that women are not far behind as far as hunt for gold medals are concerned. She had a fierce battle with Ayonika Paul for most of the final, but held her nerve in the dying stages to clinch the yellow metal.

Ayonika settled for silver. Apurvi ended up with 206.7 points to Ayonika’s 204.9.

#5 Rahi Sarnobot

In the 2010 Delhi games, Rahi Sarnobot had won silver and Anisa Sayyed gold in the Women’s 25 m pistol event. This time around, Rahi dominated from start to finish not letting the fellow Indian to come back into the game.

The 2010 results were thus reversed, but it was India who had the last laugh in the women’s 25 m pistol.

#6 Satish Sivalingam

He had won three gold medals at the 2013 Commonwealth Weightlifting championships and continued his form into Glasgow as he won gold in the 77 Kg event. He lifted a total of 328 Kg ( 149 in Snatch and 179 in Clean & Jerk).

Ravi Kumar, who had won gold in 2010 Delhi games in the 69 Kg category was second best after lifting 314 kg (137 + 177).

#7 Jitu Rai

Jitu Rai won his first CWG medal as he dominated the field in the 50m air pistol final. He had scored 562 points in the qualifiers, which is a games record. Jitu eventually finished with 194.1 points to claim gold. Another Indian Gurpal Singh won silver after scoring 187.1 points.

#8 Amit Kumar

Amit Kumar won first gold medal in wrestling at Glasgow as he beat Nigeria’s Ebikweminomo Welson 6-2 in the final of men's freestyle wrestling 57kg category.

Amit had a 4 point lead early in the first period and consolidated it in the second half despite increased pressure from the Nigerian.

#9 Vinesh Phogat

Vinesh Phogat clinched gold as she defeated the 2013 European Championships silver medalist Yana Rattigan of England 11-8. Vinesh never looked out of place during the entire bout and sealed the deal in the second half.

#10 Sushil Kumar

Sushil Kumar lived up to the hype as he won another Commonwealth games gold medal. He thrashed his Pakistani opponent Qamar Abbas 8-0. The 2012 Olympic silver medallist, Sushil who moved up from 66 kg weight category to the 74kg category, beat Abbas in just 107 seconds.

#11 Yogeshwar Dutt

Yogeshwar Dutt proved why he was the overwhelming favorite as he outclassed Jevon Balfour of Canada in the final of the men's freestyle 65 kg category to win another gold. The 2012 Olympic bronze medallist, Yogeshwar was declared the winner on grounds of technical superiority after he took a 10-0 lead within 1.53 minutes of the first period.

#12 Babita Kumari

Babita Kumari had won silver in the 2010 Delhi games in the 55 Kg freestyle wrestling event. This time around, she bettered it by winning her first gold as she beat Canada's Brittanee Laverdure 9-2 in the final.

Babita dominated most of the proceedings and it was only in the last 15 seconds that Brittanne managed to open her scoring, but by then it was all over.

#13 Vikas Gowda

Vikas Gowda became the first Indian man to win a field event gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. The Mysore lad Gowda, who hurled the discus to 64.32m to top the qualification round , achieved his best throw of 63.64m in his third attempt.

#14 Dipika Pallikal and Joshana Chinappa

Dipika Pallikal and Joshana Chinappa created history as they won India’s first gold medal in squash at the Commonwealth Games. They beat the English pair of Jenny Duncalf and Laura Massaro 11-6, 11-8 in the final.

The No. 5 seeded Indian pair were in the spotlight after beating World No. 1 pair of Nicol David and Low Wee Wern in the quarterfinals.

#15 Parupalli Kashyap

Parupalli Kashyap was over the moon after winning his first Commonwealth Games gold medal by overcoming Singapore’s Derek Wong 21-14, 11-21, 21-18 in a tight final. He had won bronze at the 2010 Delhi games.
