Ace Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin just does not stop with his on-field bowling charisma. He has developed a habit of nailing it on twitter whenever someone jabs at him. Recently the variations-specialist took a dig at Harsha Bhogle's tweet about continuous travelling and staying at a place for a bit of time. While the cricket analyst tweeted stating the numerous places he had to travel in the past 20 days and was quite pleased to be in Dhaka for a few days, Ashwin dig fun with a reply tweeting that Dhaka traffic would ensure Harsha spent more time at a signal than 20 days.Twitter is not new to witness Ashwin’s humour and satire. Here are 5 instances where Ashwin owned the twitter banter.
#1 Mocking Jesse Hogan
Ashwin had an interesting exchange with a journalist in February 2016 which ended with him making a self-deprecating joke on bowlers who had chosen their craft in an unfortunate time of high scores.
Ashwin, who is a keen student of the game and a follower of cricket matches everywhere, was disheartened not to be able to watch the ongoing New Zealand vs Australia ODI, where Martin Guptill had launched a typical carnage.
Ashwin asserted that he expected a 400+ game at Auckland from the look of initial stages of the game, at which the journalist mocked on Ashwin resisting turning into a batsman when bowlers around the world were being pounded.
#2 Dubai calling?
In the recently concluded Asia Cup, there was another situation of Ashwin leaving an accuser blank-faced.
After their victory over Bangladesh in the first match, Pune Supergiants chose twitter to congratulate the Indian team on their amazing win. However a person named Adnan Khurshid tagged Ashwin accusing him,” Illegal action, where is ICC?”
This allegation was met with a straight bat reply from Ashwin tweeting “Dubai..” This coolheaded answer must have left the accused deadpan.
This is one of the occurrences which is proving Ashwin to be the king of social media.
#3 Tiff with Rodney Hogg
This one was back in November 2015 when India were up 2-0 against the Proteas in a 4-match test series. Indian spinners scalped a whopping 47 of the 50 wickets to fall at the end of the third test.
Ashwin was the leading wicket taker with 24 dismissals at that point. Former Aussie pacer Rodney Hogg initiated a war of words saying Ashwin was able to pick up those many wickets due to the spinner-friendly conditions.
The off-spinner replied back in perfect fashion stating Hogg also owes his success to his favourable to conditions back in Australia.
The Nagpur pitch came under a lot of flak due to its rank turner nature which saw the match end within 3 days.
Nevertheless, India claimed an unassailable lead in the series, Ashwin hogged the limelight with his epic reply.
#4 Everytime it will not be funny
A similar incident occurred in December when a cricket fan hit out at Ashwin saying his success is restricted to Asian conditions. The guy even went to the extent of saying that he was a waste outside Asia as there are better bowlers than him.
This time, Ashwin showed less of his humourous side and more of his resentful thoughts.
Ashwin shot back saying something in Tamil which in English means,” Go and focus on getting your kids educated instead of worrying about me, did I ask your permission before deciding to take up cricket?”
Surely there is much more than the funny bone in Ashwin when it comes to dealing with critics.
#5 Ashwin remembers records very well
This one was in the India-Zimbabwe series which Ashwin was not a part of. He along with other senior players was rested for the particular tour. India huffed and puffed their way to victory in the first ODI with Ambati Rayadu scoring an unbeaten 124.
Ashwin, relaxing at home was following up on both Ashes and India’s match. Incidentally, a girl funnily tagged the off-spinner tweeting Rayadu scored a brilliant maiden ton and he was catching up the Ashes.
The star bowler reminded the girl that she is still a novice when it comes to cricketing records, tweeting that it was not Rayadu’s maiden hundred.
He followed it up with another tweet saying Rayadu bettered his score but remained unbeaten.
