Five best Indian fast bowlers

Kapil Dev at his fearsome best

The multi-talented man from Haryana tops the list. He dominated almost every field cricket offered him, be it fast bowling or batting or even fielding. He also was selected for a brief stint as the national coach in 1999.

Kapil who is widely known for helping India win the first ODI world cup ever, was a fearsome fast bowler who loved shaping the ball away, bowling out-swinger after out-swinger, making it his trademark delivery. He later also learnt the art of bowling the in-swinger, making it his primary delivery to clean up tailenders.

Kapil on his test debut immediately showed what he had up his sleeve troubling the Pakistan batsmen with pace and bounce hitting their helmets on more than one occasion. He continued to produce impressive performances for his side and by the end of 1983 he had 250 test wickets against his name. But a knee surgery in 1984 slowed him down making him less devastating for his oppositions. He finally ended up with an impressive record of 434 wickets in test cricket which is the highest by any Indian fast bowler.

He has impressive bowling averages in both ODI and test formats with averages of 29.64 and 27.45 respectively. He also added to his profile a high range of first class wickets, claiming 835 scalps with a jaw dropping 39 five wicket hauls.
