Mahi Mantras: 5 lessons to learn from MS Dhoni

Dhoni has led India to win three prestigious ICC TrophMS Dhoni is not just a great cricketer. He is a great human being too. There are qualities which have made him stand out amidst a crowd. It is the few set of guiding principles which he has always abided by.Success has followed suite. We as commoners can certainly imbibe few of the MS Dhoni mantras. It would not only make us better as humans but shall also usher in unseen success in life.

#1 It\'s not about talent, it is the attitude

MS Dhoni might not have those elegant strokes which possess the power to mesmerize, but he does have that unorthodox style which has done wonders for him. He has maintained himself in the top 10 ODI rankings for almost a decade.

Hard work, dedication, motivation, endurance, and patience are the prime factors which have worked in Dhoni’s favor. Be it the helicopter shot or the brutal forceful scoop over the covers - all these have fetched tons of runs for him. Neither will you find these strokes in any text book, nor will any academy or coach teach you these.

Some are born with a gift. Some are just average. The right attitude can make the folks falling in the second bucket surpass all and see a meteoric rise. It is about worshipping your job. This is what Dhoni has been doing right from the advent.

#2 Be honest about your opinions

You have to be honest about what you believe and what you feel, even if it sounds blunt to most of the folks. MS Dhoni does not shy away from pointing out mistakes. He has been vocal about batting failures or any aspect of cricket that has gone wrong.

He has been adamant about what he believes. Even as a youngster he used to counter a guy of Sachin Tendulkar’s stature if he felt things could have been done in a better way. History is evident of the fact that Sachin referred Dhoni’s name for captaincy.

In the long run, it would be farfetched honesty which shall ring the bells of success.

#3 Take blame, give credit

In a team be bold to take up the blame, if things don’t fall in place. It would not lead your stature going down in any way. In fact, it would set an example for people working under you. On the other hand always let the team relish the success to the core.

MS Dhoni has always been humble in taking responsibility for the overseas defeats. He was the one who had offered to resign from ODI captaincy as well.

Dhoni has always given the credit to others. He has won all the big trophies that exist. Never ever have we seen him jumping around after the victory. He is the one who stands in the last line of the queue in the team huddle while the team poses for the camera.

#4 For the betterment, do take decisions which might be bold

You have to be bold in taking decisions. Doing away with people like Virender Sehwag or Yuvraj Singh is a decision which dragged many brick bats. They are legends who have proved themselves in the past.

They were out of form and MS Dhoni did not shy away from dropping them. It has to be about the current state of things. You cannot rely on the past for the present to become fruitful. If things have moved out of the way, you have to take bold decisions.

Even Kapil Dev was a great cricketer, doesn’t mean he can be brought back.

#5 Uphold the people who have been with you in your bad times

MS Dhoni is not the one who has invented the helicopter shot. It was his childhood friend who was behind the scenes. Dhoni sent out an air ambulance for his ailing friend. Unfortunately, his friend passed away.

While touring with the India ‘A’ team in his early days, Reebok was the first to offer MS Dhoni a sponsorship. He became a star in a matter of few years. Till Date Dhoni has continued his relationship with Reebok, even though there are other brands who have offered him more bucks.

It just shows his gratitude which he offers to people who had been with him and who have contributed to his success.
