Stats: South Africa vs New Zealand 1st ODI - Amla on par with Gibbs

South Africa beat New Zealand in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the series by 20 runs. Both teams were depleted a bit since a few big names were missing out, but it didn’t make a difference to Hashim Amla as he continued his merry ways. He scored his 21st ODI hundred and put up a huge partnership with Rilee Rossouw to take the game away from the Kiwis. There were plenty of numbers to discuss after last night’s action and here are they:

21 - number of Centuries for Hashim Amla in ODIs, joint most for any South African player along with Herschelle Gibbs. However, Amla took 115 innings for 21 centuries while Gibbs played 240 innings. Ab de Villiers with 20 centuries in 179 innings is next on the list.

124 - runs scored by Hashim Amla today, highest for him against New Zealand, and 4th highest for any South African against the Kiwis.

16 - out of 21 centuries Amla has scored could not cross 130 mark. Today he scored 124.

5.52- Innings/hundred for Amla in One Day Internationals- lowest for any ODI batsman. Ten Doeschate and Virat Kohli are next on the ranking who take 6.40 and 6.95 innings respectively to score their centuries.

921 - runs scored by Hashim Amla in 16 innings this year- most for any African player, and 2nd most for any Non-New Zealander in 2015. Williamson with 1224 in 22 innings, Guptill 1149 in 26 innings, Taylor 1041 in 23 innings and Dilshan 1003 in 18 innings are above Amla.

#2 Rossouw Rose with Amla

Amla and Rossouw took the game away from New Zealand

185 - runs scored by Amla and Rossouw for the 2nd wicket today- which is the 6th highest for SA for the 2nd Wicket and the highest partnership for any wicket in an SA-NZ ODI Match. Amla and Rossouw went past 176 runs scored by Gibbs and Kirsten vs NZ at Birmingham on 10 Jun 1999 which was earlier the highest for any wicket in an SA-NZ ODI Match.

4 - number of times, prior to this day, 160 plus runs had been gathered for any wicket partnership in an NZ-SA ODI Match. Today Amla and Rossouw made 185 for the 2nd wicket. Interestingly, the earlier four occasions also belong to South African pairs.

21- number of instances prior to this day, South Africa have collected 180 or more runs for partnership of any wicket in One Day International History. Today they posted their 22nd 180 or more runs partnership and are on 4th on the list. They went past Pakistan who have 21 such partnerships.
